Maersk Oil Qatar AS is the leading oil producer offshore Qatar and a recognized pioneer in oil development and production techniques. On the basis of an Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) signed in 1992 with Qatar Petroleum, Maersk Oil Qatar (MOQ) is the sole operator of the Al Shaheen field.

The current oil production from the Al Shaheen field is approximately 300,000 barrels per day from nine different locations and is exported via two main offshore facilities.  

Maersk Oil is looking for a Senior Development Engineer to work in the Engineering department of our Qatar office.

Reporting to the Head of Facilities Development Studies, you will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the constraint management / debottlenecking of the surface facilities of the Al Shaheen (ALS) oil field in Qatar and supporting the front-end definition of future field development projects. There will be opportunities for training courses, networking and involvement in corporate initiatives for the successful candidate.

Key Responsibilities:

• Formulate and maintain a bigger picture view of ALS surface facility capabilities and future requirements
• Ensure forecasts produced by Subsurface group are based on up-to-date performance information
• Proactively identify and evaluate future development requirements by liaising with Subsurface, Production Operations and Integrity & Reliability departments
• Identify and scope studies that have an output that adds value to the business
• Drive studies, with the involvement of external parties as required, to evaluate identified issues and future development options
• Develop and maintain a project pipeline, showing the effect of planned and proposed projects on future production profiles
• Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry technologies that may be applicable to future facility modifications
• Directly assist in the development of more junior personnel, both expatriate and local

Required Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

• Recognised degree in chemical or process engineering with at least 10 – 15 years of experience in oil and gas industry upstream projects
• Strong knowledge of the fundamentals of offshore process and utility system design
• Strong knowledge of conceptual design / field development including budget and schedule estimation and installation implications
• Demonstrated experience at a responsible level in multidiscipline design reviews (layout reviews, HAZOP, etc)
• Experience in engineering management at area lead, lead engineer, project engineer or study manager level and previous exposure to stage gate project delivery would be considered an advantage
• Proven exposure to the operational aspect of the industry would be a strong advantage
• Experience in managing interfaces, both internal and external, focusing on quality output and timely delivery
• Ability to work both independently and as a part of an integrated team
• Ability to effectively represent Maersk Oil Qatar externally to clients, industry peers, vendors and consultants, and other Maersk Oil business units
• Experience and interest in the development of corporate standards, guidelines and philosophies
• Good communication and social skills, effective across a broad spectrum of nationalities and cultures
