As a Coal Processing Specialist at our corporate offices in Brisbane, your primary role will be in supporting the work of our Resource Assessment group in assessing the viability of new coal resources as well as opportunities for extending and expanding existing operations. You will also work with other members of the Coal Processing Improvement group in identifying and implementing improvement opportunities throughout Rio Tinto Coal Australia's coal handling and processing plants, in order to achieve and exceed business objectives.  Your key accountabilities and responsibilities will include:  

• Resource assessment
• Flowsheet development
• Gaining capital approval for projects
• Identifying and facilitating improvement opportunities
• Managing improvement projects

This role will give you an opportunity to work across brownfield and greenfield expansion projects across our sites in the Bowen Basin and Hunter Valley.The successful candidate will possess the following: 

• A degree in Chemical, Mineral Processing, Metallurgical Engineering or a similar tertiary qualification
• High safety standards
• Experience in coal resource assessment will be viewed favourably
• 5+ years' experience in a mineral processing or metallurgical role in a mining or heavy industrial environment
• Demonstrated problem solving and project management ability
• Excellent people, time management and organisational skills with a flexible approach to fluctuating workloads
• Experience with modelling systems, statistical analysis, LEAN & Six Sigma methodologies and Root Cause Analysis
