Ten of Barrick’s mining operations are found within the Australia Pacific region, with its regional head office located in Perth, Western Australia. The Taxation Analyst works within the Taxation Department and reports to the Taxation Manager (“TM”) for the Australia-Pacific Regional Business Unit (“APRBU”). The primary purpose of this position is to assist the TM in the effective preparation and presentation of the tax effect for the  relevant APRBU legal entities for inclusion in the entity stand-alone and consolidated IFRS statutory accounts on an annual basis.   Key responsibilities are:

• As part of a team of Taxation Analysts, the preparation and presentation of the tax effect calculations giving rise to the Tax disclosures contained in IFRS statutory accounts.  This includes:
  • Reconciliation of prior year tax effect closing balances
  • Preparation of the current year tax effect accounting calculations
  • True up of lodged prior income tax returns for the tax effect account calculations to be included in the current year statutory accounts.  This includes a breakout of the consolidated group income tax returns on a legal entity basis
  • Review of statutory accounting finance group prepared tax disclosures
  • Providing support to statutory accounting finance group to assist in timely resolution of outstanding tax effect calculations.
• Provide support to Senior Taxation Analyst – Group Tax Effect Reporting to ensure compliance with the annual group tax effect accounting obligations for applicable APRBU legal entities.
• Participation in tax group training and development including assisting in the preparation of tax effect training for the APRBU tax group in Perth and accounting finance group.  
• Assistance with certain tax matters relating to the preparation of income tax returns.
• Developing & maintaining relationships with statutory accounting finance group and site personnel.

The successful applicant is CA qualified (or equivalent) with recent tax experience in commerce and / or the accounting profession, preferably experience with large mining. Experience in using a computerised accounting system such as Oracle, Pronto or JDE will be an advantage as will advanced Excel skills.  The role is a twelve month fixed term contract with the opportunity of extension.  It is Perth-based with occasional travel expected within Australia.This position offers a competitive salary package in line with qualifications and experience.  Standard benefits include 9% superannuation, premium private health cover for the whole family, salary continuance scheme, salary packaging options and 20 days annual leave per year. Closing date for this vacancy will be 15 June 2012.
