PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION
 
The Construction Superintendent manages all construction activities comprising into a totally safe, integrated, coordinated, and controlled effort to satisfy and exceed client expectations and set parameters in relation to time, cost, quality and project outcomes from date of authorization through to commissioning and client hand-over.
 
The Construction Superintendent will demonstrate DMC’s core values of: Zero Harm, Respect and Integrity, Entrepreneurial Spirit, and Operational Excellence.
 
 
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1.  Ensure that all construction personnel and contractors are adequately trained in their job responsibilities, understands the project policies and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  2. Demonstrates personal commitment to safety and implements systems both in the office and on site to promote safety awareness and create a 'Zero Harm' culture.
  3. Ensure construction is executed safely and in compliance with all regulatory requirements, project instructions, Job Hazard Analysis, Real Time Job Analysis and safe working procedures.
  4. Provide exemplary leadership to the construction team to actively participate in being responsible and accountable on a day to day basis. 
  5. Provide prominent organizational skills and a team builder to support to the construction group.
  6.  Support efforts of peers and colleagues by sharing resources and technical skills. 
  7. Has overall responsibility for achieving the Construction Team’s Objectives.
  8. Provide formal point of contact for all construction communications. 
  9. Develop an appropriate organizational structure for execution of the construction phases, identify functions necessary, and select appropriately experienced and enthusiastic personnel for specific positions and delegate responsibilities.
  10. Review the need for training, counseling and/or corrective action. 
  11. Establish specific policies/procedures relevant to construction execution.
  12. Ensure initiation such that completion of construction is achieved by the completion date, within budget, and equals or exceeds the expected quality.
  13. Set goals and objectives for the various teams, identify priorities, clearly communicate these to team members and appropriate other contractors, and provide leadership in their implementation. Motivate, ensure commitment and build a result-orientated team focused on achieving the optimum outcome for the construction.
  14. Manage through nominated staff all aspects such as safety, in-house and external engineering requirements, procurement, construction, controls, commissioning, interfaces, administration functions and all external work undertaken by contractors and consultants throughout the construction and commissioning phases of the project.
  15. Ensure that all communication channels are effectively operating amongst the construction team members and that coordination and cooperation between disciplines is occurring.
  16. Communicate with senior management in accordance with the limits of authority.
  17. Monitor and measure the work being executed regularly and report progress against schedule, milestone deliverables and capital expenditure budgets. Recommend and implement corrective strategies where needed to best meet overall construction objectives.
  18. Ensure adherence to the construction authorized Scope of Work, monitor scope status, and advise management accordingly.
  19. Prepare and submit the daily, weekly and monthly project progress reports prepared for the project director, client and/or for internal distribution.

 QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Ensures the continued commitments to the site safety program.
  • Coordinates the construction activities to successfully complete the project safely, on time and within budget.
  • Manages the coordination of all construction activities at site to ensure efficient communication between all functions on the project.
