The Clermont region comprises of 2 operating Rio Tinto mines, Blair Athol Mine and Clermont Mine near the town of Clermont, Central Queensland. This is an exciting time for Rio Tinto Clermont Region whereby Clermont Mine has recently transitioned from project to operating mine status and is planned to be at 12 mtpa when at full capacity while Blair Athol Mine, currently producing 6.8 mtpa, will gradually scale back operations to a 3 mtpa operation in late 2010 towards closure of the site in 2016. The 2 sites are joined by a 14 kilometre overland conveyor that transports coal from Clermont to Blair Athol for loading on to rail, and out to port. This position is located within the Technical Services Team and is responsible for providing survey support for both Blair Athol and Clermont Coal Mines. As a Surveyor, the primary purpose of your role is to provide the operations with spatial information and survey support.  Reporting to the Specialist Surveyor, the key accountabilities include:

• Provide survey control and measurement as required for exploration drilling, geotechnical monitoring, mine planning, blasthole drilling, overburden removal, coaling, IPCC and associated operations.
• Provide accurate spatial data, plans and mining information in an appropriate and timely manner.
• Maintain design data and accuracy of HPGPS machine guidance systems
• Timely and accurate end of month pit and stockpile pickups and volumes for physicals reporting.
• Complete exploration, site infrastructure and topographic surveys as required.
• Maintain data in the mine planning systems to ensure a high level planning input is maintained
• Apply technical knowledge and skills to identify problems
• Facilitate and implement continuous improvement
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key stakeholders

You will possess:

• Relevant tertiary qualifications.
• Experience in Minescape or similar Mining CAD program.
• Experience in the mining industry with exposure to open cut survey processes.
• Registration as a Surveyor with Mining Endorsement 'O' or the ability to obtain this.
• Strong problem solving and decision making capability with a professional level of design and planning skills.
