GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities include: Position has been designed to provide accelerated development during a targeted 2-year rotation. Position will provide stretch for professionals possessing high ambition, and will offer the candidate with early exposure to higher levels of work. The role is ideal for those safety and health professionals looking for early career advancement, or those looking to broaden their experience base with a cross training rotation. Leading and managing the Safety, Health and Security Department and its staff. Experience in leading the integration of the Barrick Safety System, and development of support systems to ensure safe production. Developing the workforce to proactively identify hazards, and mitigate risk using safe work practices. Driving continuous safety improvement through consistent and effective visible felt leadership, and utilization of methods that foster high levels of employee engagement and participation. Driving staff adherence to Barrick safety standards through accountability. Ensuring timely and thorough investigations consistent with Barrick incident reporting standards, leading and managing site activities to ensure compliance with MSHA regulation. Other duties as assigned.

SELECTION CRITERIA

BASIC REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for this job, applicants must meet these basic requirements.  

Primary duties of role include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or engineering field preferred.
• A minimum of Seven (7) years experience in Safety, Health and Security or line supervision required.
• Demonstrated ability to lead the Safety agenda and the empowerment of employees in taking ownership of their own safety required.
• Sound knowledge and understanding of Federal Mine Safety and Health Act 1977 required.
• Proven ability to interact appropriately with MSHA officials required.
• Demonstrated ability in leveraging expertise to identify innovative safety initiatives for the organization required.
• Ability to maintain a high level of effective employee relations required.
• Proven track record of delivering results in core job and consistently achieves Personal Commitment objectives required.
• Ability to drive the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) agenda required.
• Ability to think organizational wide, un-siloed and commitment to Barrick’s future, strategic direction required.
• Advanced skills in utilizing Microsoft Office programs including Excel, Word and Powerpoint required.
• Ability to demonstrate key Leadership attributes of authenticity, courage, decisiveness, collaboration and ambition required.
• Ability to safely perform the essential functions of the position required.
