The Drilling Department expects to increase its drilling activity during 2012-2013 and drill up to 50 extended reach horizontal wells in the next for 2-3 years. One rig will be allocated to a workover campaign with potential development drilling. The Drilling Superintendent for the workover rig will be responsible for running the rig and be part of a highly motivated and innovative multinational/multicultural team.
Area of Responsibility
The Drilling Superintendent is responsible for safety and operations on the designated rig and is also the contact between the Drilling Supervisors on the rig and the Drilling Department. The position is also responsible for the on-shore co-ordination of contracts and services for the rig / well including financial aspects.
Specific Duties
· Provide the necessary onshore supervision and assistance to the Drilling Supervisors with respect to the daily operational activities.
· Review well proposals, drilling, completion and potential workover programs for the designated rig.
· Initiate rig move preparations, planning and meetings.
· Ensure timely planning of the work schedule and relevant/adequate training for both Drilling Supervisors and potential trainees.
· Ensure that all rig operations are carried out safely, according to approved programmes, and in accordance with applicable Company procedures and Governmental regulations. Monitor operational performance trends, and where required, ensure corrective measures are implemented immediately.
· Ensure risk assessments are carried out where appropriate.
· Ensure all drilling activities are reported correctly and timely in our reporting systems.
· Conduct monthly visits to the drilling rig to ensure that the work is being executed in a safe and efficient manner following Company, local and International operating standards/practices.
· Participate in monthly Drilling Contractor meetings and quarterly safety meetings.
· Ensure that all safety issues and process reports are reported correctly in the SYNERGI and in the Non Conformance and Lesson Learned system.
· Ensure Contract Work Orders are prepared for all required services.
· Verification/approval of invoices.
General Duties
1. Own and drive an Incident-free mindset on the rig. Build relationships based on an honest and open safety culture with all contractors both onshore and offshore.
2. Participate in Tendering and Contracting for services required in connection with the drilling operation.
3. Build good relationships within the Drilling Department and other departments. Promote a good team spirit in the Drilling Department and assist others in achieving goals.
4. Ensure that all documentation and information prepared and/or obtained in the course of work is handled in strict confidence.
5. Contribute to keeping Company manuals and procedures up to date with legislation, procedures and best practices.
6. Ensure that in all matters, prior to decision, correct technical and commercial assessments are made, due diligence observed and initiative to secure the most cost-effective solution.
7. Remain up to date with and well informed of new technology within the industry and suggest implementation of such, if deemed relevant and / or cost effective.
Skill Set / Competencies
· ERD and horizontal well drilling experience.
· Completion and workover experience; completion experience is essential for the role while workover experience is desirable.
· Good team player and communicator.
· Ability to interact with others both inside and outside the Drilling Department keeping in mind the overall goal.
· Contract management experience and negotiating skills are desirable.
Responsibility for managing people
· Four (4) Drilling Supervisors working on a rotational schedule.
· Conduct appraisals for the assigned Drilling Supervisors.
· Timely planning of the work schedule.
· Ensure relevant/adequate training for Drilling Supervisors and trainees as well as providing supervision/“on-the-job” training for Operations Engineers.
The following Education/experience are minimum requirements:
· High school diploma is essential, BSc in Petroleum or Mechanical Engineering preferred.
· Proficient in written and verbal English.
· At least 15 years experience in the oil industry;
o out of which a minimum of five (5) years’ experience should be as a Drilling Superintendent
o (to include three (3) years of experience with jack-up rigs)
o and a minimum of three (3) years’ (5+ desirable) experience as a Drilling Supervisor.
· Good physical health - essential as participation in regular offshore visits is integral to the role.
· IWCF Certificate, Supervisor level.
· Accident investigation training (TOP SET or similar) is desirable.
Working conditions:
· On call duty (24 hours) on weekdays for the designated rig and participate in weekend / holiday duty rotation for all rigs.
· Mainly onshore in Doha office with monthly offshore visits.
