This role will be responsible for:
Daily and weekly pit production plans, monthly and quarterly plans, mine surveying and coordination of drill and blast designs
Other activities include the technical input into the mining operation
Clear focus on best practices regarding health, safety and environment (HSE) and cross functional team work with mine, maintenance and plant personnel
Health and Safety
Ensure adherence to the Company’s “Zero Harm Safety” with workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
Maintain a high level of Health and Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring and revision of standard work procedures
Identifying and reporting of health and safety risks, near misses, accidents, incidents, injuries, environmental spills and property damage at the workplace
Attend and participate in all scheduled health and safety meetings and training
Environment
Maintain a high level of environmental performance
Ensure adherence to Western’s environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements
Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all tasks and activities
Maintain environmental awareness by attending meetings and actively participate in planned environmental programs and drills
Production
Maintaining mine plans
Working with mine modeling software (Minescape-Mincom)
Working on and producing short range mine plans and production plans
Other duties as required
Strategy
Coordinating short range and production mine plans with long range plan and life of mine plan
Monitoring and reporting on mine sequence
Ensuring that the mine sequence is followed as planned
Planning
Plans and designs, mine sequences, benches, dumps, roads, ramps and equipment requirements
Plans and designs alternative mine designs and select most appropriate for further development
Conducts mine planning and scheduling for pit optimization
Reserves
In collaboration with the Senior Geologist, calculating mine reserves
Plans and designs the best mining sequence for optimum reserves recovery
Team Development

Ability to establish good working relationship with others in the team
Liaising with operating personnel at the mine
Required:
B.Sc. Mining Engineering
P. Eng. or eligible for P. Eng.Ability to think out of the box
Knowledge of B. C. mine legislation
A minimum of 1 year of experience in mine design and mine engineering coupled with exposure to an operating mine environment
Ability to handle a large and varied workload
Experience in mine modeling software
Experience with short range mine planning
Ideally, experience will be in open pit coal mining
Good written and oral communication skills
