Our client has an immediate need for a full-time Resource Geologist responsible for providing resource expertise to ensure mine expansion plans are carried forth in a safe and timely manner so that current mine production and long term mine planning are not impaired.
Job Summary:
The Resource Geologist will be responsible for assisting with the development, maintenance and updating of the current 3D resource database, assisting with geological interpretation and modeling, and provide the mine with additional geological services as required. You will apply knowledge of geology, mining, mineralogy, metallurgy, mill recovery, geostatistics and applied mathematics to develop resource and reserve models, including scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility and production level models.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Analyze, evaluate and document resource models to NI 43-101 or other standards
Ability to participate in a multi discipline-integrated approach to near, mid, long term and life of mine planning
Collects, documents, and assesses geological data from various sources and data sets (i.e. blastholes, drillholes, mapping, sampling, interpretations, historical mining data and documents)
Audits and performs adequate quality control checks of various data sets including geostatistical analysis
Independently analyzes and interprets complete data set following Quadra FNX standards. Provide or utilize reconciled 2D geological interpretations (on paper) in various views to create high quality 3D wireframes
Constructs and maintains 3D wireframes of lithological units, alteration, various ore zones and ore types (or domains) to follow industry and company standards and procedures
Generates and maintains resource models for operations and projects as required
Determines block modeling methods and techniques with appropriate estimation parameters for various ore zones and ore types. Generates tonnage and grade estimations within interpreted mineralized zones and classification of those resources based on geological confidences, reconciliation to production, drill hole spacing
Co-prepares with engineering, reserve and resource statements and NI 43-101 documentation in support of annual reserve and resource reporting
Qualification/Skills/Knowledge:
1. Previous Related Work Experience Required
A minimum of 5 years of experience, 10 years preferred, in mine geology, preferably related to an open pit copper porphyry operation
Strong understanding of 2D interpretation, 3D geological modeling and block modeling
2. Education Required
BSc. in Geology, Economic Geology or Geologic Engineering
MSc. in Geology, Economic Geology, or Geologic Engineering is preferred
Certification as a Registered Professional Geologist is preferred
Demonstration of continuing education of geological knowledge base and resource modelling techniques
3. Special Skills and/or Knowledge Required
A proficiency in applied mathematics and a strong background in problem solving and technical programming skills (scripting, modifying software and/or writing code)
Ability to develop and maintain short term models on a regular basis for forecasting purposes
Study of copper skarn and porphyry districts and deposits preferred
Strong technical writing ability is required to prepare documentation in support of annual reserve, resource and NI 43-101 reporting
Functional knowledge of multiple resource calculation methods, exploration programs, and Robinson District geology are all preferred
4. Special Equipment/Computer Knowledge Required
Strong background in mine modeling software(preferably MineSight or Datamine Studio) with a demonstrated proficiency in geologic and resource modeling that is applicable to both open pit and, preferably, underground mining
Strong computer skills in mainstream PC applications such as Excel, Access, Word and AutoCAD a plus
Significant experience working with databases
Working knowledge of spatial software
Significant experience working with presentation software
Ability to operate light vehicles
