Job description:

Alcoa Howmet, located in Hampton, Virginia, is a leading producer of complex investment cast turbine airfoils for the industrial gas turbine industry. It specializes in the investment casting of equiax, Mx® ultra-fine grain, directionally solidified (DS), and single-crystal (SC) blades, and single-and multi-vane segments for industrial gas turbine applications.

The 500,000 sq ft (45,000 sq m) facility opened in 1974. Alcoa Power and Propulsion, a major business unit of Alcoa Inc. (NYSE: AA), is a global leader in airfoil and structural investment castings, forged structural parts, and forged aircraft wheels.

Serving the aerospace, defense, energy and industrial markets, its products are primarily used in jet engines and industrial gas turbines. Additional value-added products and services include hot isostatic pressing, specialty coatings, research and development, supply chain management, specialty tools, molds, and machinery. With 29 production facilities, Alcoa Power and Propulsion employs more than 11,000 people worldwide.

This position will: exercise responsibility to ensure operations for Radiographic and/or Fluorescent Penetrant Inspections are held within customer/internal quality requirements; communicate directly with customer to resolve issues dealing with NDT discipline; maintain records per customer and internal requirements and develop internal and external process procedures; provide oversight, develop and direct NDT inspectors; review and approve specific component Product Criteria; investigate new material, equipment, and techniques for NDT; provide clarification for process and procedure instructions for NDT personnel; prepare, administer, and grade certification testing; monitor calibration procedures and schedules and review all incoming customer specification; serve as focal point for customer and general NDT method audits; provide technical support for order, test, and maintaining raw materials; provide technical support to engineering with review of scrap and rework; prepare and approve NDT techniques and procedures; maintain and ensure uninterrupted accreditation and/or certifications NADCAP, AS9100; achieve and maintain customer-administered Level III certifications as required.

    Position may be filled as a JG 14 to JG 16 depending upon qualifications and experience.
  • Associates Degree in a technical field or equivalent NDT experience.
  • 4-5 years NDT Level III experience in Radiography and/or Fluorescent Penetrant.
  • 6-12 month candidate may be required to cross certify in Fluorescent Penetrant or Radiography.
  • Must meet all requirements of Level II position and possess Level III certification to NAS-410.
  • Must pass annual Jaeger vision exam.
  • Travel may be required for additional training and support of customer requirements or problem resolution.
  • Thorough knowledge of all aspects of radiographic and penetrant inspection.
  • Sound knowledge of Quality systems.
  • Ability to communicate with inspectors on all shifts and maintain inspection records.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Step into supervisory role as needed/required.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing practices.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
