GEOLOGY MANAGER
African Barrick Gold’s Bulyanhulu Mine is seeking an experienced Geology Manager to report to the Production Manager. The incumbent will be responsible for all Geology functions and, together with the mining & processing team, will ensure that maximum profitability is generated through the efficient extraction & processing of mining reserves. The Geology Manager will provide technical leadership to the Geology team to ensure that industry best practices in Resource Estimation, Grade Control & Diamond Drilling are actively employed. The Geology Manager is the Site Competent Person for Mineral Resources and overseer of the Annual Technical report.
KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide practical leadership to ensure that employees and contractors adhere to site safety standards which exceed world industry standards and any applicable legislative provisions
• Complete & manage annual budgets for Mine Geology, Mine Lease Exploration & Underground Diamond Drilling Sections
• Ensure timely and accurate geology inputs to facilitate the preparation of mining plans and mine schedules in collaboration with the Production Manager and Process Manager to ensure optimum development and reconciliation of the Bulyanhulu ore body
• Accurately maintain a diamond drill core library of the defined ore reserve and supervise the maintenance of accurate records of the QA/QC of the sample data for the Life of Project for Sarbanes Oxley legislation compliance
• Accurately maintain & co-ordinate Grade Control, Ore Reserve and Resource estimates and ensure routine reconciliations against Processed figures to drive continual improvement
• Ensure all data & documentation required to support & validate the Bulyanhulu resource is kept in a logical & systematic manner to facilitate ease of auditing
• Prepare and sign off as a Competent Person the Annual Resource Statement in accordance with the guidelines set out by the NI 43-101 and JORC
• Maintain a working environment which ensures that Geology staff gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring programmes.
• Assess the potential and supervise development of satellite deposits as well as all exploration activities on the Bulyanhulu Mining Lease
• Develop, implement and monitor systems to ensure geology and assay databases are complete, accurate and accessible.
• Prepare and submit Monthly Geology and Exploration reports as required
• Conduct quarterly performance reviews of the Senior Geology staff
• Liaise on a daily basis with the Senior Geology, Diamond Drill, mine planning & mine operations staff with regard to grade control, diamond drilling, ore interpretations and mine planning activities.
• Liaise and interact with representatives of the Tanzanian Ministry of Mines, external Suppliers, Contractors and Consultants to ensure that Bulyanhulu interests are represented and protected
• Actively guide Succession Planning within the Geology Team to ensure that the PML commitments to the Tanzanian government, with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees to assume positions of increasing accountability, are achieved.
PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Education Requirements:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology, preferably with a post graduate qualification in a relevant field.
Experience Requirements:
• A minimum of 10 years experience in Mining and Exploration Geology, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• A significant portion of this experience will have been spent within precious metal mines, where a variety of mining techniques, including narrow vein conventional mining, are utilised
• Working experience in Africa or a developing country which requires systematic coaching and training of employees will be a distinct advantage
• Advanced Skills in Geo-statistical Analysis, Report writing and Geological Block Modeling, Mineral Resources Evaluations, Mine to Mill Reconciliations, Underground Ore accounting and tracking in a coarse gold environment
• Intermediate Skills in Cost Analysis, Budget Preparation, Project management (particularly management of drilling & exploratory programs)
• Knowledge of Mine Safety Regulations, Industry Best practices, Diamond drilling processes & techniques
• Excellent Computer skills in: Datamine Mining Software or similar and MS Office Software package
• Must have excellent written and spoken communication skills in the English language.
