The Cost Estimator is to work as part of the overall tender team in defining an accurate estimate of both costs and sales prices for the proposed technical solution in response to all tender enquiries, pre-qualifications, studies or other tendering activity as appropriate.
They will plan and manage the costing of all the tendering activities necessary to win the work, whilst complying with the Company’s processes and procedures.
Typical activities that the Cost Estimator will be particularly accountable for are the ensuring that other departments provide their relevant input in a accurate and timely manner, tender budgets/ costs, ensuring adherence to tender schedules, risk & opportunity management.
The scope of work will range from costing for the tendering of individual equipment and services through to the provision of integrated Subsea Production System (SPS) projects (typical values £50k → £50M). The main tendering activities though will be for the provision of Controls systems/ products/ services, and Wellhead systems, but could additionally cover any product or service (or combinations of) that Aker Subsea has to offer. Geographically the tender work will be for either UK based Clients or the provision of Centre of Excellence (COE) tender support to other global regions, as requested.
• Create cost sheets for each tender that allow for input of information relating to all costs e.g. material, non recurring engineering hours, source of costs etc • Be able to review and understand technical documentation/information as provided by the engineer and from this build up/estimate the appropriate level of costs (e.g. material, engineering resource etc) • Liaise with operations (manufacturing and supply chain) in order to obtain accurate and timely costs (3rd party supplier quotes and manufacturing hours required for in house assemblies) • Review of quotes to ensure technical compliance in conjunction with supply chain and engineering disciplines • Identify any risks or gaps in the costing and allocate appropriate contingency • Understand internal and external cost drivers that influence the overall pricing of the equipment • Complete benchmarking analysis to show cost and selling price build up relative to previous tenders/projects. • Create a full and detailed estimate of costs and the selling price utilising the company pricing tool. • Ensure that estimates are prepared in accordance with specifications to comply with company and client procedures. • Prepare cashflow forecasts • Collate and maintain all relevant cost information in a cost database • In addition to the ability to self check, liaise with other tender team members to ensure suitable and sufficient checks are made on the accuracy of estimates. • Utilise the SAP system in order to extract relevant information to ascertain and understand previous/current/actual costs • Be able to review and understand technical documentation e.g. top assembly drawings • Ensure that all significant risks have been identified and mitigated. • Improve the quality and focus on all aspects of Aker Subsea Limited proposals/ tendering work. • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal interfaces such as the Sales & Marketing, Control Systems Engineering, Project Management departments, Norway MSP team, and other global business units.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum of a HNC/HND in a relevant technical or commercial subject.
Specific Training/ Specialist Skills
High degree of competence (intermediate to advanced) in Microsoft Excel
Proficient in Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Word and PowerPoint
Working knowledge in SAP.
