The Mechanical Engineer performs the engineering design function by applying his/her technical expertise in a professional manner in order to comply with prescribed objectives.
Working within the Aker Solutions – Controls Centre of Excellence in Aberdeen. With the overall objective to deliver standardised, configurable controls system solutions that meet the global market requirements for Subsea Production Systems (SPS).
Responsibilities and tasks
This role provides the engineering service to design, develop, and configure instrumentation for the SPS with the typical product range (but not limited to) of:
• Pressure & Temperature Sensors
• Sand Detectors, Sand Erosion Detectors
• Chemical Injection Throttle Valves
• Leak Detectors
• Pig Detectors
• Venturi Flow Meters
• Multi Phase Flow Meters
• Wet Gas Flow Meters
• Down Hole Pressure Temperature Interfaces
The main roles performed in the day to day execution of the services are as follows:
• Awareness of all relevant International Standards.
• Standard products offered to meet client requirements & specifications.
• Creating Materials and Bills of Materials (SAP knowledge preferred)
• Prepare/Check Drawings & generate documentation as per the MDL.
• Manage and Generate Engineering Change Orders.
• Preparation of Product Data Sheets
• Preparation of Functional Design Specifications’ with a focus on material selection & welding processes.
• Preparation of Procurement Specifications
• Preparation of Test Procedures
• Perform Design Reviews
• Write supporting product Operating Maintenance Manuals (OMM’s)
• Provide support and direction for Tendering, Supply Chain & Manufacturing.
• Provide technical & commercial product benchmarking.
• Provide technical input for FEED studies.
• Perform RCA, FMEA, FMECA reporting as required.
• Maintain and improve/simplify our processes.
Qualifications & personal attributes
• Degree or HNC/HND with relevant industry experience
• Demonstrable relevant Mechanical Engineering experience preferably within the Oil and Gas industry
• Will have a sound working knowledge of offshore industry best practices
• Demonstrable experience in the ability to carry out all elements of mechanical design within Topside & Subsea Controls Systems covering Hydraulic and Electrical Power Distribution and Supply, Instrumentation and Flow measurement, material selection, and welding practices
• Demonstrable experience in the ability to carry out all elements of mechanical design within a Xmas Tree & Wellhead Subsea System with the inclusion of operating/running tools, material selection, and welding practices
• Preferably Chartered Engineer Status
Candidates/job-holders without the relevant formal qualifications above but possessing other academic or vocational qualifications or who can demonstrate a greater level of relevant practical experience with a proven track-record may be considered equally competent
