Job Description: AREVA is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technologist for our Canberra location in Concord, Ontario, Canada. Responsibilities and duties include:
- Design and development of instruments used for radiation measurement.
- Gathering information and assessing the customer's needs.
- Design layout.
- Design parts if required.
- Making assembly drawings.
- Reviewing equipment specifications to ensure they comply with the process engineering that is required for a diverse number of industries.
- Assist production department when needed.
- Use existing design concepts as well as creating new ones is required as well as prudent and safe design practices
- Design, create, and detail innovative and standard instruments and translate to working drawings
- Prepare assembly drawings, detail drawings on CAD (2D and 3D)
- Quality check finished parts for form, fit and function prior to assembly
- Preparation of Bills of Material
- Safe use and maintenance of confidential information, including proprietary software and all client information
- Consequences of errors such as improper design resulting in remanufactured parts delaying delivery resulting in customer dissatisfaction, errors in material data results and inaccurate financial data, loss of design and production time, waste of materials.
- Follow ISO 9000:2000 requirements.
- Authority to initiate and carry out actions using established methods and procedures, problem solving is somewhat routine with infrequent unusual situations where management is either consulted or advised of action taken.

- Community College degree in mechanical design or preferably Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering in addition to 5 - 7 years of on-the-job training.
- Ability to read, write and perform mathematical analyses.
- Compose correspondence for internal/external use.
- Experience with Application software, maintain engineering data base.
- Ability to diagnose and solve technical problems/trouble shooting.
- Proficiency with measuring instruments in addition to calculator, fax, photocopier, and telephone system.
- Proficiency with common MS Office applications.
- Continuous upgrading with new mechanical design procedures and techniques using standard software.
- Good interpersonal skills; able to communicate effectively and clearly with customers and fellow employee.
