CH2M HILL Mine Water Treatment Engineering Careers
The Challenge? Be part of world-class technical teams delivering mining-related environmental services to protect and preserve our water resources. Our Mine Water Treatment Engineer positions are your opportunity to help our clients manage their water resources, reclaim water for reuse, minimize environmental impacts associated with mine water discharge, and restore environmentally impaired sites. Each day, you will support mine closure/remediation projects in addition to mine water treatment projects for active and expanding operations, utilizing your understanding of a broad range of passive mine water treatment technologies.
You should be a self-motivated, team-focused individual with a minimum B.Sc. (M.Sc. preferred) in Geology, Biology, Environmental or Chemical Engineering, with a post-graduate or work experience focus on passive treatment employing geochemistry and/or geomicrobiology; have a successful 8-15 year track record with a focus on mining projects, and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally with each assignment.
Our Mine Water Treatment Engineers:
- Provide technical expertise in passive mine water treatment and management, including consideration of both surface water and groundwater sources
- Evaluate, select, and apply innovative techniques and procedures for treatment of contaminated water, both surface and groundwater, in cold-weather climates
- Have expertise related to mine water treatment technologies for site-specific mine water drainage chemistry for hard rock and energy minerals mines
- Plan, execute and manage tasks for mine water treatment projects involving field investigations, feasibility studies, design, and permitting
- Support projects for both industrial and government clients
- Understand regulatory requirements related to water resources and interface effectively with regulatory agencies on behalf of clients
- Complete tasks within schedule and budget constraints
- Lead and/or support the preparation of technical reports
- Assist in market development efforts
- Interact with a broad variety of clients and multi-disciplinary CH2M HILL project teams across multiple geographies
- Maintain professional licensure, as appropriate
Basic Qualifications
- Minimum B.Sc. degree in Biology, Geology, Environmental or Chemical Engineering
- At least 8 years of experience in consulting, with a focus on the use of natural systems for water treatment
- Strong understanding of mine operations and familiarity with accepted mine water treatment technologies for surface water and groundwater
- Experience with performing or interpreting results of bench- and pilot-scale testing of mine water treatment technologies
- Experience in preparing feasibility and detailed engineering design documentation for mine water treatment facilities
- HAZWOPER and/or MSHA certification or ability to obtain
