EIA / EIS / EA Senior Environmental Consultant / Planner ($134-104K) Not Normal?

Information:

Posted: 15 May 2012
Apply deadline: 13 Aug 2012
Location: Sydney Metro, NSW
Company: Not Specified

Job description:

The usual Choice goes something like this…   Do you choose: A Top Tier Engineering Consultancy with tall structures (career opportunities), less specialist focus, larger projects, rigidity / red tape and a manager who sits in a different office?   OR   Do you choose: A Boutique Specialist Consultancy with a flat structure (glass ceiling), clients love them but only a few Directors interact with them, career progression is sideways, flexible arrangement?   What if there was a middle ground: A Boutique in an International’s shoes?   Employees are actually ex-Boutique Specialist Consultants who made a very good name for themselves in the Environmental and Water Sector in Australia. They were bought out by a Global Engineering Firm and after 4 years decided that it wasn’t working.   Seven (7) key Senior Principals left and opened the Newcastle office for this International (not Global) consultancy and grown from 7 to 40 staff in 16 months.   So, the middle ground is:

  • Newcastle is parochial, this has credibility with clients;
  • Excitement from growth and clear structure for career advancement upwards;
  • Does not feel like a big OR small company – literally middle ground
  • Felxible work hours/arrangements
  • Major projects (state significant EIA/EIS/EA)
On the role, it’s a 2IC position to the Manager whose role you will eventually take over as he saddles back into more of a Water focus. You can’t get the opportunity to be the Environment Manager for Hunter region in any of the established companies.   Project Manage and Project Direct Coal mining and mining chain projects (Rail, Ports) providing Environmental Assessments (EIA/EA/EIS) and Environmental Management as well as coastal zone management plans and dredging impact studies.

Located in the centre of Newcastle near the beach.
