Position Purpose:
 
The fundamental role of the Enterprise Architect is to provide strategic guidance and governance relating to the infrastructure and application technology environments at Peabody Energy. 
The Enterprise Architect will work with stakeholders of all types (both leadership and subject matter experts) to build a holistic and strategic view of the organization's information technology assets, applications, data/information assets, related processes, and information security requirements.
The Enterprise Architect will link the business mission, strategy, and processes of the organization to the IT strategy, initiatives, and technology selections. These relationships will be documented using various architectural models or views that show how the current and future needs of the organization will be met in an efficient, scalable, secure, sustainable, agile, and adaptable manner.
The Enterprise Architect operates across organizational and computing "silos" to drive common approaches and expose information assets and processes across the enterprise. 

Principal Accountabilities:


  • The primary goal of this position is to deliver an Enterprise Architecture that represents the most efficient and secure IT environment while meeting the business needs of the company. Delivered successfully, a solid Enterprise Architecture will allow both the Business and IT strategies to coexist effectively and enable/drive each other. For this reason effective Enterprise Architecture is regarded as one of the key means to enabling competitive advantage through information technology. Therefore, the Principle Accountabilities of this role include: Facilitation of the Architecture Technology Governance Committee consisting of leadership and technical representation from:

    • Network, Servers, Storage and Database teams  
    • Data Center, Helpdesk and Desktop Engineering teams  
    • Mobility and Security teams  
    • Application Development teams  
    • Business Analyst representatives (as appropriate)  
    • Quality Assurance  
  • Develop and Maintain the Architecture Technology reference model and associated architecture patterns that define the infrastructure and application technology standards.
  • Support for growth and expansion of the Peabody IT environment by providing a global perspective on the impact of the architecture on 24/7 operations, varying time zones, disparate operating environments and practices.
  • Develop infrastructure and application strategies and standardized patterns that are dynamic and highly adaptable to the growing needs of the business with a focus on delivering the highest levels of reliability, capabilities and service while minimizing costs.
  • Identify and evaluate technology trends in concert with evaluation and analysis of vendor/manufacturer capabilities used to select a product which best meets the needs of the Company.
  • Identify and evaluate business trends in the energy industry including adequate consideration of the technology impacts and inclusion in strategy/planning activities.
  • Establishing and driving programs and initiatives that support increasing the organization's capacity for innovation.
  • Creation of long-term prioritization plans for shared architecture development across the organization that supports integrated products, without sacrificing short-term goals and needs.

Job Requirements:


  • BA/BS in Computer Science, related technical discipline, or equivalent experience. Masters degree desired.
  • 5-10+ years individual technical achievement. Hands-on in software development and system architecture.
  • Proven ability to drive enterprise architecture best practices broadly and deeply throughout a technical and engineering based organization, while able to articulate and convincingly influence decision-makers on technology trends.
  • Strong Architecture/Engineering knowledge of: VMWare, x86 servers (HP, IBM and Cisco), EMC storage and backup technologies, Cisco and HP network gear, Windows, Linux and AIX operating systems and SAP is required.
  • Strong written, verbal and presentation skills are required.
  • Strong business acumen, with experience in understanding and shaping technology investments in support of company strategy. Exposure to business theory, business process development, governance processes, management and budgeting.
  • Able to develop a strong business case/value proposition relating to technology solutions that enable the business.
  • Practical experience designing and building enterprise and/or distributed systems.
  • Must demonstrate experience in the techniques used to build highly scalable, economically feasible and high-performing systems, both backend and web-based systems.
  • Expertise in optimizing the integration of multiple technologies to include: OS (Windows/.Net, Unix/AIX), Relational Technology (SQL Server/Oracle), Enterprise Applications (SAP, SharePoint), Network (WAN, LAN, Internal and External internet)
  • Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills around collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills.
  • Innovative thinker with excellent analysis, design and communication skills.
  • Travel as necessary.
