CH2M HILL Industrial Water/Wastewater Permitting & Water Quality Engineer Careers – Atlanta, Georgia, Nashville, Tennessee, or Montgomery, Alabama
The challenge? Help develop and provide high quality, leading edge sustainable engineering solutions to our clients in the mining, oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical and petroleum refining industries for water/wastewater treatment. Our Industrial Water/Wastewater Engineer careers provide you the opportunity to manage multiple small to mid-sized permitting and water quality projects, while contributing to client development activities. Each day, you will be an important team member of CH2M HILL's industrial water/wastewater delivery team. You should be a self-motivated professional with approximately 5 years of successful project experience, hold a Masters Degree in Chemical, Environmental or Civil Engineering and have a desire to grow professionally as well as personally with each new industrial water/wastewater permitting/engineering project.
Our Industrial Water/Wastewater Permitting/Water Quality Engineers:
- Demonstrate consulting and design project execution success with NPDES permitting related to industrial water/wastewater discharge applications.
- Collaborate directly with clients, business development and project teams to develop technical and business solutions for client problems that are technically sound and differentiate CH2M HILL in the market place.
- Possess working knowledge in all or some of the following industrial water and wastewater/storm water service/subject matter areas: strategic planning/watershed assessments/source water assessments, water and wastewater characterization/basis of design, conceptual alternatives evaluation/feasibility studies, treatability testing, process definition, NPDES permitting, water quality/receiving water assimilation modeling and assessments.
- Assist clients with development of permitting strategies, define data collection needs, lead toxicity identification/toxicity reduction evaluation (TIE/TRE) studies, define and/or conduct water quality modeling activities, provide input and/or conduct bench and pilot scale proof-of-concept studies, develop and implement water/wastewater sampling plans, draft NPDES permit applications, etc.
- Work closely with project teams and clients to guide industrial project development, as well as regulatory compliance strategies that maximize operating flexibility and reduce total project costs.
- Manage multiple small to mid-sized consulting projects, while providing task management and technical contributions to multi-discipline teams to bring innovative solutions to industrial water/wastewater permitting and water quality problems.
- Display strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
- Possess an outgoing and positive attitude, are dependable with the ability to work independently as well as part of a team to meet deadlines and provide a high quality of work.
- Drive ownership of health & safety in all aspects of project execution, office and personal environments.
Additional Information:
- This position has the flexibility to be located in one of our following office locations: Atlanta GA, Nashville TN, or Montgomery AL.

Basic Qualifications
- BS in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering or related technical discipline
- 5 years experience in water quality related industrial water/stormwater management preferably as applied to the oil & gas, petroleum refining, petrochemical, and mining industries
- Compliance and project management experience across federal or state equivalent programs including: Clean Water Act (CWA), Spill Prevention, Control & Countermeasure (SPCC), Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Safe Water Drinking Act (SDWA), Underground Injection Control (UIC), and National Pollutant Discharge Elimination Systems (NPDES)
- Proven competency in delivering consulting projects involving industrial water, stormwater and wastewater treatment
- Technical understanding of the driving regulations and technologies for treating industrial wastewater in the oil & gas/petroleum refining, petrochemical, and mining industries
- Sound knowledge of the industrial water/wastewater marketplace with a focus on wastewater treatment in the our target industries
- Possess strong capability to efficiently use computer-based tools for work execution
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- EIT required
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to the basic qualifications, we also desire the following:
- MS in Chemical, Civil, or Environmental Engineering or related technical discipline
- 9 years experience in water/wastewater permitting and water quality assessments
- Knowledge of industrial wastewater regulations and compliance strategies
- Experience in conceptual design of biological, chemical and physical wastewater treatment technologies, and general industrial water systems technology as applied to oil & gas, petroleum refining, petrochemical, chemical and mining industries
- Technical expertise to solve client challenges
- P.E. preferred
