Nature of Position:  The primary function of this position is to perform technical, permitting, compliance and regulatory functions regarding environmental related disciplines for Midwest Operations.

Qualifications: 

• B.S. degree or equivalent in engineering, environmental sciences or related discipline with a minimum of 5 years post education experience preferred. 
• Advanced knowledge and experience of Clean Air Act regulations and permitting is required. 
• A post graduate degree or professional engineering license is preferred. 
• Knowledge of and experience managing other environmental disciplines such as SPCC Plans, TRI, SARA and NRC programs. 
• Knowledge of or ability to apply environmental tasks associated with coal mining. 
• Excellent organizational, computer (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat, AutoCAD/GIS and statistical applications) and writing skills (a skills test may be required). 
• Knowledge of state and federal mining regulations. 
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management, mine personnel, the general public and regulatory agencies.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Provide technical expertise to support project development and active and closed mine sites. 
• Managing environmental programs required by CAA, SPCC Plans, TRI, SARA and NRC, etc. 
• Plan, coordinate and prepare applicable sections of mining and other environmental permits for existing and future mining operations in the Midwest. 
• Assist in gathering technical information and preparation of mine plans/permits for new and existing mining operations. 
• Assist in the review and development of comments for federal and state regulations and rules including air and solid waste. 
• Provide technical expertise to maintain compliance with all applicable permits.

Location and Work Schedule:

• Located in the Peabody Midwest Office in Evansville, Indiana – will require as needed travel to all Midwest locations and regulatory agency offices. 
• Schedule – 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. M-F (or equivalent) with overtime and weekends as required.

Physical Demands:

• Must have the ability to stand for prolonged periods of time on uneven rocky surfaces. 
• Must have the ability to be seated for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles. 
• Must have the ability to work from elevated positions, walk/climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders. 
• Must have the ability to lift/raise 10 - 50 lbs. without mechanical assistance frequently during the course of work shift. 
• Must have the ability to perform repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have rapid reflex movements of the arms and legs and good hand to eye coordination. 
• Must have the ability to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area. 
• Must have the ability to wear required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA
