Overview:

 

Atlas Energy, LP (NYSE: ATLS), a publicly-traded company focused primarily on natural gas exploration, gathering, processing and transportation, is seeking a candidate for the position of Sr.Geophysicist. Atlas has grown significantly over the last several years and is looking for a motivated individual to complement our team.

 

The primary purpose for this position is to interpret 2-D and 3-D seismic data for the evaluation and development of prospects and fields in unconventional resource plays (a strong background in conventional E&P a plus). A secondary role is to recommend and manage the acquisition and processing of new as well as existing seismic data sets, and implement quantitative interpretation techniques applicable to the resource plays.  This position reports to the VP Exploration.

Responsibilities:

 

Essential functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Interpretation of 2-D and 3-D seismic data sets on a geophysical workstation
  • Build Time/Depth models for accurate targeting of horizontal wells.
  • Integrate petrophysical, geological, and geophysical data as a member of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Provide technical judgment to build seismic data sets using existing non-proprietary seismic, new seismic acquisition and reprocessing to meet business requirements.
  • Identify critical data for accurate definition of hydrocarbon potential and be able to describe critical risks and uncertainties.
  • Interface with seismic acquisition and processing vendors.
  • Provide clear presentations and documentation of the entire scope of work.

 

Qualifications & Work Environment:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Proven 2-D and 3-D seismic interpretation expertise (typically onshore U.S.) using geophysical software.  Expertise with the IHS Kingdom software suite is highly preferred.
  • Experience with seismic acquisition and processing in an onshore environment.
  • Skill in developing Time/Depth models from a variety of data sources.
  • Working knowledge of the Barnett, Eagle Ford, Marcellus and Utica shale resource plays.
  • Ability to apply quantitative interpretation techniques appropriate for shale resource plays.
  • Knowledge of potential field methods as they relate to the shale resource plays.
  • Ability to analyze and identify key uncertainties and provide a work plan to address them.
  • Strong communication skills for interfacing with a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Strong team player.
  • Self-motivated individual with the ability to work independently as a geophysical specialist.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics or related field is required
  • Master’s degree is strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in Oil/Gas industry
  • 2+ years  of experience with progressing shale prospects to technical maturity

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • This role is performed in an office environment which is well-lit and relatively free from dangerous working conditions. There is no exposure to extreme hot/cold temperatures in the office environment.
  • Infrequent domestic travel is required.
