Purpose:
- Fully qualified and experienced professional geoscientist.
- Is a recognized expert in at least one field of geoscience or has demonstrated ability to implement, manage, and complete assignments in two or more fields of geoscience with a minimum of technical supervision.
- Has considerable latitude for independent judgment, actions, and decisions, and has full professional competency.
- Identify and evaluate greenfields or near-mine exploration opportunities, or 3rd party mineral investment opportunities. Work assignments are more complex in nature, where considerable creativity, technical judgment, tact, and initiative are required in problem solving.
- Employees must comply with regulatory health and safety regulations, company policies and procedures and the Company's environmental compliance policy.
- Employees will perform other duties as directed and needed by the Company to ensure optimal safe operation.
Essential Duties:
- Has a higher level of management and technical responsibility.
- All senior II level geophysicists are expected to be fully participating technical geophysicists in addition to any managerial or supervisory responsibilities
- Support and conduct geophysical activities at a highly proficient “technical expert” level.
- Maintain a close tie with the global exploration and Geophysical R&D Groups and focus on utilizing geophysical technology within the Company.
- Play a role in setting the geophysical vision of the Company.
- The senior II level geophysicist has a larger geographic area of responsibility, a country, continent or entire mine district. There is a higher level of management responsibility in developing an exploration vision, planning programs and budgeting.
- Consult with geologists as a technical team member. Design geophysical exploration programs and set up contracts to get work done. Advise more junior geophysicists on their programs.
- Perform geophysical activities essential to exploration, near-mine or in-mine programs in support of a project or mine team, including geophysical data acquisition, geophysical data processing and interpretation of geophysical data in conjunction with geological team members. Run in-house geophysical crews and monitor contract crews. Train junior level geophysicists and geologists.
- Acquire, process and interpret geophysical data and write reports that recommend appropriate action to exploration, near-mine and in-mine geological team members.
- Manage junior geophysicists and projects. Train junior geophysicists and geologists.

Working Conditions:
- Will work in mines, project sites, and/or greenfield exploration environments where conditions may be primitive and/or harsh at times. (Primitive/Harsh = surface or underground environments, hot to extreme cold, desert or tropical rainforest to tundra conditions, remote field camps, high mountain terrain, steep rough terrain, long distance and/or time to advanced medical care.)
- Extended period from their home base may be required.
- Must be able to hold/operate a phone and radio with sufficient voice and hearing to carry on a conversation.
- Must be able to drive a manual-speed, 4x4 vehicle and occasionally operate an all-terrain vehicle.
- Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 45 lbs of equipment and/or samples for distances up to five (5) miles (8 kilometers).
- Bachelor of Science in Geosciences or related field knowledge of geological, geochemical, and/or geophysical principles.
- Typically has more than 8 years of industry experience in a mining or exploration environment.
- Some or all of the industry experience can be substituted for additional graduate studies, e.g. a PhD, in the case of the research position.
- This position will be based in Denver, Colorado but the focus of work and travel will be primarily to Newmont's South America region.
