Job description:

Maersk Oil is the leading oil producer offshore Qatar and a recognized pioneer in oil development and production techniques. On the basis of an Exploration and Production Sharing Agreement (EPSA) signed in 1992 with Qatar Petroleum, Maersk Oil is the sole operator of the Al Shaheen Field and presently engaged in one of the largest oil projects in the world with capital investments of approx. 6 billion USD comprising the drilling of more than 160 additional production and water injection wells.

 

Purpose:

Main duties and focus of the Senior Piping Engineer are:

 

  • Responsible to the Head of Piping/Mechanical Engineering for the technical design integrity of MOQ topsides piping facilities.
  • Provide timely support and troubleshooting assistance to other MOQ departments.
  • Act as project engineer (PE) for assigned Brownfield projects.

 

Through these activities the Senior Piping Engineer contributes to the main objective of achieving a safe engineering design and facility operating conditions.

 

Principal Accountabilities

 

General Duties:

 

1.      Comply with applicable safety instructions and other Company procedures, both onshore and offshore.

2.      Make sure that assessments of safety, economic impact and technical importance are performed whenever required. Due diligence shall be observed and initiative taken to secure the best result.

3.      Treat all information, both written and spoken, obtained in the course of the work with confidentiality.

4.      Carry out work in compliance with:

  • ·     Company values and policies
  • ·     Relevant laws and regulations
  • ·     Applicable contracts.

5.      Actively monitor work progress such that risks and problem areas are identified, reported and solutions identified.

6.      Timely completion of assigned projects and tasks.

7.      Bring forward suggestions for improvements in time and cost within the areas of responsibility.

8.      Undertake any other work and responsibilities as per separate instruction.

 

Specific Duties:

 

Technical tasks:

  1. Contribute to the technical design integrity of MOQ topsides piping facilities
  2. Provide timely piping engineering support and troubleshooting assistance to other MOQ departments, including giving input to project concepts and engineering review of piping designs.
  3. Timely support and troubleshooting assistance upon receipt of memos and other request from Production and I&R departments.
  4. Timely review of brownfield piping designs
  5. Responsible for timely response to “Fitness for Service” requests from production department in accordance with urgency category 1, 2 or 3.
  6. Timely support in the review of contractors design and specifications.
  7. Monitor quality of contractors piping design; specifically review piping layouts (model reviews), pipe stress and flexibility analyses, platform layouts and mechanical handling studies
  8. Monitor interface design between new and existing facilities.
  9. Contribute to timely response to piping related waiver requests and concession requests.
  10. Participate in near miss investigations
  11. Ensure agreed piping related offshore safety surveys are carried out within set time limits.

 

 

Innovation and development:

  1. Follow industry technical developments and innovate to further enhance piping facility performance and safety.
  2. Contribute to continuous development of the piping engineering team.

 

Quality of work:

 

  1. Participate in the maintenance and update of Company technical standards
  2. Develop and maintain procedures and guidelines to ensure safe and consistent piping design in compliance with internal guidelines, current international standards and industry practices. This includes procedures and standards used in the DDE (Dedicated Design Engineering) office.
  3. Use the right tools and ensure availability of up-to-date piping design software and other required technical resources.
  4. Review piping related offshore as built documentation and provide "lessons learned" feed back to the design group (DDE).

 

Responsibilities in the capacity as project engineer (PE) for assigned Brownfield upgrade and modification projects:

  1. Contribute to the definition of concepts, develop detailed engineering designs, manage scope and quality of projects, purchase equipment, keep agreed time schedule and budget, obtain 3rd party approvals in accordance with the certification contract, prepare mechanical completion documents and commissioning procedures and assist in offshore commissioning.
  2. Ensure that HAZID and HAZOP are carried out as appropriate and actions are closed out.
  3. Ensure the design is properly coordinated with other brownfield projects and new installations.
  4. Obtain and implement project comments from construction, maintenance and production departments.
  5. Ensure technical compliance and suitability of purchased equipment by document review and attendance at Factory Acceptance Tests as applicable. Ensure adequate fabrication and maintenance documentation is provided.
  6. Arrange, mobilize and coordinate vendor and third party attendance during offshore installation and commissioning of equipment as applicable.
  7. Provide necessary input to the shut down planning and execution
  8. Close out project, ensure that punch list items are closed, handover to production

 

Responsibility for managing people

  • ·         May be assigned the daily leadership for other discipline engineers and assistant engineers

 

Education and Experience

 

  • ·         University degree in mechanical engineering or similar education or experience. 
  • ·         Minimum 12 years of piping engineering experience including 5-6 years of relevant offshore oil & gas experience.

 

 

Skill set/Competences

 

  • Team player with showing individual initiative, responsibility and integrity.
  • Strong interpersonal and English communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Capable of working in an international and multicultural environment.
  • Proven knowledge and thorough understanding of piping design in connection with large scale offshore projects.
  • Good general computer skills.
