Position Description

Within Australia, Peabody Energy has eleven operations in Queensland and New South Wales and is actively pursuing growth plans with a view to being a long-term participant in the Australian coal industry and continues to supply the high-growth Asian coal markets.

Our Wambo Site is an established and successful mining operation located near Singleton in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales. Our mining lease includes both an Open Cut Truck and Shovel and Underground Longwall operation. We are currently seeking a qualified Geologist to join the Project Team on site at Wambo. Reporting to the Project Director, the Geologist will perform a range of duties including:

Achieving the companies HSEC objectives and targets
Executing our drilling program and liaising with the drilling contractor for daily drilling operations
Validating and correlating drill hole data prior to input into database
Undertaking and interpreting in-pit detailed geological mapping

In addition to being a self starter and logical thinker, you will ideally present the following profile; recognised Bachelor of Science majoring in Geology, experience in exploration and coal geology, good computer skills & understanding of geological modelling and associated software. Vulcan, Minex, GIS based packages desirable and underground experience would be highly desirable.
