Job description:

The Cooper River Plant is located about 15 miles north of Charleston, South Carolina, and is home to one of the world's largest single purified terephthalic acid (PTA) units. PTA is the preferred intermediate used in the manufacture of polyester resin for fibers, films, and packaging. The plant has two production units (which combine to manufacture approximately 1.2 million tons of PTA per year) and associated shipping, utility and waste treatment facilities. The Cooper River Plant and its employees strive to maintain the facility's reputation as a responsible neighbor.

The I&E Technician disassembles, repairs, and reassembles equipment using cross-section and exploded view drawings to support safe, environmentally sound, reliable, and optimum plant operations. As a member of the Maintenance and Reliability team, this position reports to Team Leader, Maintenance I/E. Uses process flow sheets, piping, and instrument system diagrams, one line electrical drawings, and schematics for installation, troubleshooting, and repairing I&E systems. I&E systems utilize pressure, temperature, flow, and level measuring, controlling devices, analyzers, transformers, starters, switches, fuses, solid circuitry, PLC’s, etc. Uses various testing equipment (electrical, electronic, and mechanical and pneumatic) to install, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair and maintain the above equipment. Uses hand and power tools to remove and reinstall a device from service. Utilizes personal computers and enter data into computers and write reports. Performs quality checks before and after returning devices to service.

Our Training Program is a registered apprenticeship program with the Department of Labor.
• Maintains process equipment in accordance with established procedures and processes.
• Coordinates maintenance activities with Operations personnel. Works with Operations personnel to troubleshoot and repair equipment and instrumentation.
• Supports emergency plant needs on day shift and provides 24-hour (on-call) assistance during off-hours.
• Identifies opportunities to be innovative and to apply skills to improve safety and quality, reduce costs, and increase production.
• Supports plant TPM activities by training and coaching Operations personnel.
• Provides support to Unit Engineering functions.
• Assists in equipment troubleshooting activities and in root cause failure analysis.
• A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent with a minimum of 5 years industrial or military experience in the I&E field or an associates degree from a vocational technical college in a related field.• Legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than your current employer
• A proven track record of acceptable work practices, attendance, good housekeeping habits, and strong communication skills.
• Be able to accomplish tasks within a reasonable time with minimum supervision.
• Understanding of maintenance metrics.
• A passing score on pre-employment tests, including mechanical aptitude, reading, and mathematics
• The ability to read and follow unit operation instructions
• The ability to follow detailed safety procedures
• The ability to routinely work in confined spaces for extended periods of time, with or without reasonable accommodation
• The ability to routinely climb stairs and ladders than can exceed 200 feet in total span with break decks, with or without reasonable accommodation
• The ability to lift and carry heavy objects such as fire extinguishers, with or without reasonable accommodation
• The ability to put on respirators or other important safety equipment, with or without reasonable accommodation
• The willingness and ability to be on call including nights, weekends and holidays.
• The willingness and ability to relocate to or commute on a daily basis to the BP Cooper River Chemical Plant without company assistance.
• The willingness and ability to work in all weather conditions.
• Experience working in an industrial or military environment
• Experience working with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Experience responding to industrial emergencies
• Experience troubleshooting equipment
