Job description:

The Measurement Engineer supports hydrocarbon flow measurement activities within the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) Region. The GoM Region is involved in the development and implementation of some of the most innovative and challenging technologies ever seen by the oil and gas industry as well as traditional liquid and gas measurement systems. Subsea metering, application of phase behavior modeling, and non-intrusive sensor technology implementation are all areas being pursued by GoM Region. These technologies directly impact production allocation measurement activities and naturally carry a large financial impact to GoM Operations.

This role also includes assuring compliance of Measurement and Allocation Exhibit to a Production Handling Agreement, other equivalent contractual agreements, and Bureau of Safety Environment Enforcement requirements as well as Hydrocarbon Value Realization practice, internal measurement engineering guidelines and practices. Therefore, the measurement engineering services of the Measurement Engineer are critical to the success of the GoM Region.
The Measurement Engineer is responsible for providing technical support and assurance for metering and measurement systems. The individual is expected to have or develop generalist skills - maintenance, reliability, supply chain management, asset integrity, etc. The individual is also expected to actively participate in the ICE Engineering Network, Measurement Community of Practice (or BP engineering network and measurement community of practice). As skill levels increase assist in technical advisor type activities under the coordination of the GoM Measurement TA to gain skills and more experience in the measurement engineering discipline.

Following are typical tasks supported by the position:

- Specifying measurement systems and coordination of field trials of new equipment.
- Coordination of measurement discrepancy problem investigations and recommendations
- Development of technical basis for regulatory permits and/or contractual negotiations
- Coordination of measurement technical reviews for production partners.
- Assist the GoM Region to develop, maintain and help ensure on-going compliance with regulatory, commercial and internal requirements.
- Support for the Measurement Community of Practice (CoP) and the wider Instrument, Control and Electrical (ICE) Network.
- Degree qualified in a Science or Engineering discipline.- A broad range of technical and operations experience in oil and gas measurement
- Ability to teamwork effectively with diverse groups of field teams and disciplines
- Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritizing abilities
A demonstrated understanding of the following areas:
- Metering and Equipment Calibration
- Sampling and Laboratory Analysis
- Fluid Properties and Phase Behavior
- Uncertainty and Allocation
- Standards and Regulations
- Multiphase Flow Measurement
The ability to network and leverage these skills both internally and with partners will be key to the position’s success.
- 5+ years relevant technical, operational experience
- Keen business awareness and perception
- Project and/or operations experience as a measurement engineer or in the measurement discipline
- Knowledge of material balance and data reconciliation
