Working as part of a team of skilled, energetic, and highly motivated earth scientists (comprised of geophysicists, geologists, technicians, technologists, geological engineers, mining engineers and rock mechanics engineers), the Mine Technologist – GIS (GIS = Geographic Information Systems) is expected to assist with acquisition, management, and integration of all manner of underground and surface data collected at potash mines. This includes (but is not limited to) land ownership (surface rights and subsurface mineral rights), mining, rock mechanics, microseismic, and subsidence data. A key component of this work is the management of these data through Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software using the ESRI ArcGIS suite of software.
The minimum educational requirement for the position of Mine Technologist – GIS is a diploma in GIS Technology from an accredited college. Technical knowledge of potash mining and a good understanding of potash mining operations are beneficial but not essential. Experience in a potash mine would be an asset. Experience in SQL and ArcGIS Server would be an asset.
The successful candidate may be required to undergo a background check. All safety sensitive positions require a substance test in accordance with PotashCorp policy.
