Role Purpose
The Train Driver contributes to the achievement of production targets and high levels of
customer satisfaction through the reliable delivery of iron ore from the mine to the port,
while maintaining a high standard of workplace health and safety.
Accountabilities
 Operate all trains on African Minerals Railroad in accordance with:
o Railroad Rules & Regulations
o Operating Standards
o Associated Work Instructions and documented Procedures
 Provide services including mainline operations, marshalling and yard activities, work
trains, ore loading and unloading, relieving drivers.
 Safely and efficiently perform ground duties as required when marshalling and
shunting rolling stock in shunting yards, prior to departure from a location, en route
or upon arrival at a location.
 Follow specific Safe Operating Procedures and Work Instructions.
 Carry out routine checks and preparations on trains as required.
 Carry out cleaning of locos and minor repairs within the scope of competence.
 Accurately complete documentation and data entry.
 Undertake training as required to maintain competency and to gain new skills.
 Provide training where required to other Locomotive Drivers or Trainees.
 Participate in safety meetings and site safety programmes.
 Respond to emergency situations using established procedures.
 Promptly report any hazardous situations that cannot be immediately rectified.
 Promptly report any work related incident, injury or illness to appropriate supervision.

 Provide on the job training and coaching while offering advice and support in the
areas of competence.

significant environmental impacts.

Knowledge, Skills
and Experience
 Pass a Train Driver’s Medical Examination annually.
 Speak, read and write the English language competently.
 Hold a current Locomotive Engine Driver’s Certificate of Competency.
 Hold a current GM locomotive certificate of competency.
 Sound understanding of environmental policies and procedures.
 Driver Instructor( Trainer) Certificate of Competency.
