Shaft Supervisors Canada
LOCATION: Various Sites across Canada
DEPARTMENT: Site
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The Shaft Supervisor reports to the Shaft Superintendent and is responsible for the activities of a given shift, setting work priorities and allocating equipment with the combined objective of working safely and meeting cost and production requirements.
General duties and responsibilities include:
 Ensure all project personnel are properly trained in their job responsibilities, understands the company policies and work in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
 Allocate manpower and equipment to meet shift production requirements and coordinate these resources with other departments.
 Assure ventilation, compressed air and water services are installed and maintained.
 Ensure proper ground support is in place.
 Coordinate activities with cross shift to ensure continuity of work and adequate supplies are in place to continue working.
 Maintain daily record of activities; completing the daily log book and reporting abnormal conditions.
 Participate in accident investigations for any accident that occurs in his/her workplace.
 Complete timesheets for each individual on shift.
 Evaluate the performance of employees on his/her crew with respect to competency and work habits with a view of overseeing further testing, corrective action or disciplinary action.
 Ensure crew members know and understand safety and operating procedures, and meet these standards at all times.
 Ensure equipment and manpower is used optimally in his/her area of responsibility with the objectives of health and safety, production, and cost effectiveness considered.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Full Basic Common Core, including Supervisory modules.
Experience: 3 years hardrock shaft sinking experience.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
 Good communication skills and ability to work with others.
 WHMIS
 Strong organizational skills
 Able to work in a team environment, be self-motivated and enthusiastic
