Immediate Offshore Lay Equipment Electrical Technician

Job description:

We currently require experienced offshore lay technicians to work on board our vessels. The main duties are to maintain, operate and repair the lay and tower systems.  

Please note due to the nature of these assignments only applicants who have UKOOA AND Norwegian approved offshore survivals, UK AND Norwegian offshore medicals and are available to travel to assignments immediately or very short notice will be given consideration.



  • Primary responsibility for the maintenance and repair of the pipelay equipment, with specific responsibility of electronic and instrumentation systems. Implements and monitors technical procedures and reporting, work management and execution, supervision of personnel and operational duties:
  •  Ensures equipment and all systems are in complete working order and in compliance with all technical requirements
  • Ensures that the equipment is checked and maintained in accordance with relevant check lists
  • Carries out strip down and repair of control equipment - controllers, transducers etc.
  • Organises and completes planned maintenance for the system, keeping records of defects to assist in planning of re-fits and maintenance periods
  • Compiles and maintains technical records, reports and logs in a computerised maintenance system
  • Assists in the identification and ordering of suitable spare parts to ensure they are available when required
  • Uses logical fault finding techniques during breakdown situations
  • Operates pipelay spread and auxiliary equipment during Lay operations

 Systems on which the candidate should be intimately familiar with include: 

  •  
    • SCADA Systems (or similar Distributed Control Systems)
    • Programmable Logic Controllers (interrogating programs for fault finding)
    • Control Cards (Convertors, Proportional Control etc)
    • HMI Devices
    • Transducers - pressure, load cells, flow, temperature, distance etc

  • Served a Recognised Trade Apprenticeship
  • Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in appropriate Electronic or Control Engineering Qualification
  • Willingness to adhere to further learning and company schemes (e.g. technical training, Subsea 7 Competence Scheme etc)

  •  Lay Equipment experience including, Carousel, Reel Drive and Tensioners
  • Minimum of 4 years trade experience following completion of apprenticeship
  • Offshore experience desirable, but not essential - consideration will be given to candidates who have experience in heavy machinery (power stations, paper mills, mines, railroads etc)
  • Experience in a variety of electrical systems desirable - motor control etc
