Summary: Our client is currently seeking a Chief Mine Engineer at one of their mines in SK, Canada. The successful candidate will lead and manage the Mine Engineering Department including engineering, surveying, ground control, ventilation, short and long term mine planning. Provide technical support for all mining functions including capital planning, mineral lease, ore reserve calculations, equipment requirements and mine planning.
General Duties:
Ensure regulatory, corporate and site safety and environmental standards are being followed by conducting safety audits, risk assessments and housekeeping tours. Ensure all projects are evaluated to ensure that any hazards to workers, the public, the environment or the integrity of the mine, will be minimized through project design parameters. Challenges unsafe and/or environmentally harmful practices and seeks to create a safe work atmosphere and aid environmental awareness, protection and restoration. Demonstrates adherence to EHS policies and procedures.
Select, develop and lead an effective engineering organization to achieve planned objectives. Develop goals and objectives with subordinates consistent with overall effectiveness and efficiency of operation. Assure high performance by ensuring that direct reports understand their work and their roles; providing a clear picture for employees on how to grow and develop while motivating them to reach their maximum potential; giving timely and constructive feedback (e.g., recognition, developmental guidance) on a regular and more formal basis by ensuring employees feel engaged and understand how they contribute to the Company’s overall vision and goals; managing performance issues.
Lead in the development of new mining methods and techniques and in modification of existing equipment and systems to reduce costs and improve mining efficiency. Advise on capital and new equipment selection.
Manage the mine exploration program and other phases of geological activity including ore grade estimates and grade control, sampling, securing of mining leases and permits, surface and underground drilling, tonnage and grade calculations. Supervise short-range and long-range mine planning for efficient layout and maximum extraction; preparation of progress maps including, assay, contour, ventilation and ore reserves.
Ensure effective communications and interactions with regulatory agencies and third party stakeholders
Position Requirements:
Bachelor Degree in Engineering with a major in Mining/Geological or related field.
Professional Engineering Registration required.
8-10 years of mining experience, 5 of which are in people leadership.
Fosters teamwork and communicates outcomes, expectations and common goals across the work unit.
Leverages employee knowledge to develop alternate solutions and shares key learning’s with others.
Holds self accountable to commitments while utilizing the appropriate resources to meet goals.
Identifies new ideas and solutions, makes recommendations and creates implementation plans within own area.
Able to communicate the Company vision across businesses, geographies and cultures.
