Responsibilities:
Achieve overall annual production objectives by
Supervising, coordinating and scheduling the activities of all mine operations personnel to optimize utilization of resources;
Ensuring 100% availability of equipment;
Ensuring 100% utilization of available equipment; and
Minimizing equipment downtime.
Health and Safety
Ensure adherence to Walter Energy’s with workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control
Maintain a high level of Health and Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring and revision of standard work procedures
Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workplace
Attend and participate in all scheduled health and safety meetings and training
Environment
Ensure adherence to Walter Energy’s environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements
Integrate environmental policies, programs, and practices into all activities of the organization
Maintain environmental awareness amongst workforce by holding meetings and actively participate in planned environmental programs and drills
Production
Provide leadership to all front line supervisors, ensuring work is being completed in a safe, efficient and timely manner
Implement actions to optimize mining process performance and attain efficiency targets in the areas of: labour productivity, equipment availability and utilization, and material consumption
Develop and implement area work ownership with resources to maintain appropriate balance of workload with priority to equipment availability
Participate actively with the technical services group to support the development of optimum mining short term plans
Support the execution of the maintenance strategy, in collaboration with the maintenance group
Analyze machine utilization records to identify trends and problems and takes remedial action to ensure optimum resource utilization
Ensure achievement of production targets by maintaining operational standards in loading, hauling and dumping zones
Assesses performance against objectives on a regular basis as per Walter Energy’s policy and take corrective action where required
Implement daily, weekly and monthly operational plans and objectives, in accordance with production plan requirements
Recommend and implement the most practical and cost effective operating conditions
Ensure reports are accurate, complete and communicate findings to senior management
Establish areas where improvements in personnel performance can be achieved and take remedial action
Submit reports equipment breakdowns, equipment damage, safety near misses, environmental incidents and accidents according to established procedures in a timely manner
Required:
Valid BC Shift Boss Certificate
5+ years of supervisory experience in an open pit mining environment
Excellent management and people skills
Proven ability to motivate employees to work safely and achieve operational targets
Analytical, problem solving, decision making and negotiations skills
Literacy skills including the ability to read manuals and regulatory requirements
Effective verbal and listening communication skills
Computer skills include use of Microsoft Software packages
Time management skills, able to deal with tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
Knowledgeable in mine operations standards, policies, procedures and processes
Ability to take full responsibility with minimum supervision for safety, production and quality of mine operations
Ability to interpret drill plans and effectively communicate to drill and blast work group
Know and understand mine equipment safety standards
Preparation of work schedules and performance reports
Understanding of short and long term planning objectives
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills including ability to effectively communicate and interact with all individuals with integrity, empathy and sincerity
Visible team player with a positive attitude and able to mentor employees
Ability to prioritize
