Reporting to the Superintendent of Engineering, the Chief Mine Engineer directs and supervises the Mine Engineering Group, serving mine functions through record keeping, cost control and analysis, mine surveys, ventilation monitoring, brine inflow control, and both short-range and long-range planning. The incumbent directs projects and personnel associated with mine development, as well as projects to maintain and improve the overall efficiency of PCS in a safe, healthful and environmentally responsible manner.
The Chief Mine Engineer should have a professional designation in Mining Engineering or equivalent from a recognised university and be eligible for membership in the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of New Brunswick (APEGNB). Good practical knowledge of general production, mining procedures and associated computer software is a requirement. Ten years experience in underground mining in general and potash mining in particular is a definite asset. Also important, is a strong ability to work closely and cooperatively with technical, production and maintenance personnel, as well as outside contractors, while carrying out and directing projects.
The incumbent should demonstrate good oral and written communication skills, interact easily with others, exhibit strong leadership qualities, possess good analytical skills, be a self-starter and have a genuine interest in new technologies to support the process of continuous improvement in mining. The successful candidate should also have a demonstrated strong commitment to Safety, Health and Environment (SHE).
The successful candidate may be required to undergo a background check. All safety sensitive positions require a substance test in accordance with PotashCorp policy.
