Position DescriptionWe are looking for a Project Controls Manager in Kamsar, Guinea to work on a Joint Venture project. The position will begin in Montreal and move to Guinea for construction.

The position will report to the Project Director.

Some of the responsibilities include:

Monitors and performs the Program Control function of capital projects related to facility design and construction including procurement and start up working with the EPC contractor as a member of an integrated team.

Functions will include, project budgeting and performance monitoring; cost control system and implementation; project cost tracking, schedule development and administration; monitoring, control and reporting; analyze and report critical items with recommendations for corrective action.

Global Primary Products Growth, Energy & Bauxite manages all capital projects above $100 million US. Major Greenfield Projects are each > $1 Billion US. Project portfolio will be $5-$10 Billion US on an ongoing basis. Additional Owner’s Costs range from 10-15% of Project costs. This can range > $100 Million US.

Acts as the principal contact for the project controls working closely with the various internal departments such as Finance, Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Operations, Shared Services, Tax department, and internal audit. Also has to work closely with our JV Partner Rio Tinto Alcan. In addition, interacts externally with EPC Contractor(s), Financial Institutions Capital Project Representatives.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

Plan, organize, perform and coordinate the administration and maintenance of a comprehensive control program working with the EPC contractor on an integrated basis.
Develop, monitor, control and report budgets and budget performances, cost expenditures, funding requirements; provide budget and cost data coordination; monitor and report schedule activity performance against targets; analyze and identify critical items; perform variance analysis, prepares schedule and performance metrics; identify cost and schedule trends, monitor forecasts and report results to management.
Link project planning schedules with Primary Development goals; coordinate project activity schedules with vendors and/or contractors, and interface with overall project program/master schedule; provide schedule data coordination for various projects; provide reports analysis and recommendations to Program Management; conduct special studies as required.

JOB KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of project controls, policies, procedures and programs including EHS.
Knowledge of industry, technology and EPC work processes, including knowledge of customs, culture and business practices of Regions/Countries where project is located.
Knowledge and understanding of working arrangements with joint ventures, alliances and consortiums.
Knowledge of front-end activities including:
- Contracts/subcontracts formulation, analysis, negotiation and implementation
- Project Execution Plan
- Best Practices/Lessons Learned
- Constructability
- Risk Analysis/Contingency Evaluation
- Estimate/Proposal Review Process
Knowledge and understanding of project tools, techniques and procedures including:
- Cross-functional work processes and interfaces including the ability to manage the relationships/interfaces with management and functional groups.

- Continuous improvement methodologies
Ability to effectively organize and staff a project team in a matrix organization.
Oral, written and graphic communication and presentation skills.

**NOTE Preferred Skill Set:**
Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the scope of work construction, engineering, procurement, project controls and financial, including their interfaces and interdependencies acquired through managing complex projects, including taking corrective action, monitoring work, managing conflict, and coordinating all disciplines.

Managing, coordinating, and administering any of the following major and complex projects:
Major projects involving several Alcoa organizations.
Major international projects.
French language skill is an asset in this role.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major in an engineering discipline and specialized courses in project management.

Minimum 10+ years experience in project management, engineering, project controls and procurement.
