Under general supervision, supports or performs routine and advanced quantitative/qualitative analyses, such as field sampling, testing and measuring through the testing, calibration and preventative maintenance of conventional, electronic and computerized measuring devices at assigned site.
- Monitors solid waste such as drums, hazardous materials collections sites and reclamation sites
- Ensures proper labeling of solid waste and hazardous materials collection sites
- Installs and sets-up instruments and equipment
- Operates and monitors a wide variety of data gathering equipment, including GPS/GIS units, and performs preventative maintenance
- Maintains a current knowledge of site environmental policies and procedures
- May assist or provides training on environmental issues
- Performs other duties as required
- Three (3) years of experience in environmental monitoring, sampling and reporting as an Environmental Technician or closely related role
- Basic knowledge of environmental compliance, permitting, incident investigating and reporting protocols
- Knowlege of the operation and maintenance of a variety of data gathering equipment, including GPS/GIS units
- Able to analyze a wide range of soil, water and air samples to recognize potential environmental hazards
- Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
- Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED Preferred
- A valid driver's license if required
- Capable of operating multi-ton rated vehicles
- Able to conduct preventive maintenance on assigned equipment
- Skilled in planning, prioritizing and scheduling daily work assignments
- Able to use a variety of computer software applications, especially Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of site processes, equipment and infrastructure
Criteria/Conditions
- Work is in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
- Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
- Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
