Electronic Test Technician II

General Summary:

1. Under general supervision, the individual competently performs the following aspects of electronic assembly and testing.  

2. The individual shall maintain general awareness of all environmental aspects and related impacts during assigned work activities.


Essential Functions:

Performs any combination of following duties in the assembly and testing of electrical and electronic components, subassemblies, products, or systems, including printed circuit boards:

• Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, work orders, engineering performance specifications, test procedures, and engineering instructions for assembling electronics units, applying knowledge of components, electronic theory, and testing assemblies and subsystems.

• Review test procedure for accuracy and determine equipment to be used for printed circuit boards, subassemblies, and systems testing.

• Performs a variety of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical tests on electronic systems, subassemblies, and parts to ensure units function properly according to specifications, or to determine cause of unit failure, using electronic test instruments.

• Tests functional performance of systems, subassemblies, and parts under specified environmental conditions; such as temperature change, vibration, pressure, and humidity, using testing devices, such as environmental test chambers, hyperbaric pressure vessels, shaker tables, etc.

• Connects units to be tested to test equipment, such as signal generator, frequency meter, or spectrum analyzer. Reads dials or digital displays that indicate electronic characteristics, such as voltage, frequency, distortion, inductance, and capacitance.

• Compares results with specifications and records test data or plots test results on graph.

• Knowledge and training to solder both lead based solders and lead free solders.

• Assemble, test, and maintain circuitry or electronic components according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronics, using hand and power tools.

• Replaces defective wiring and components, using hand tools and soldering iron, or records defects on tag attached to unit and returns unit to production department for repair.

• Fabricate parts, such as coils, terminal boards, and chassis, using hand tools, bench lathes, drills, or other machine tools.

• Build prototypes from rough sketches or plans.

• Identify and resolve equipment malfunctions, working with engineers as necessary to obtain replacement parts.

• Confers with engineers, technicians, production personnel, and others regarding testing procedures and results and to resolve problems.

• May explain and demonstrate testing procedures to other workers.

• May verify dimensions of pins, shafts, and other mechanical parts, using calipers, vernier gauges, and micrometers.

• May be assigned to performed duties other than those listed above.
