Our North Goonyella coal mine is an underground operation located at the Northern end of the Bowen Basin, about 160km west of Mackay and produces premium quality and high strength metallurgical coal.
Currently we have an opportunity for a qualifiedGeotechnical Coordinator to join our high performing Technical Services team.
As the Geotechnical Coordinator you will provide support for the operational management to manage the geotechnical issues relating to operating a longwall mine at a current longwall extraction height of 4.2 metres in a 6+ metre seam. This is an opportunistic time to join North Goonyella with the mine introducing Longwall Top Coal Caving technology to allow the operation to mine the full coal seam thickness of 6.5 metres versus the conventional longwall mining method of 4.2 metres.
As the Geotechnical Coordinator you will:
- Design and implement relevant strata support plans, authority to mine plans and pillar assessments
- Be actively involved in the Strata Control Hazard Management Plan
- Provide assistance to the Longwall, Development and Outbye Coordinators in the management of strata as well as secondary support contractors
- Liaise with relevant production personnel to ensure effective support is provided in terms of geotechnical engineering needs.
The position of Geotechnical Coordinator is offered on a Monday to Friday basis. High Quality Accommodation and All Meals provided whilst on shift.
To be successful as the Geotechnical Coordinator you will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications
- Be in possession of, working towards, or interested in working towards a Graduate Diploma in Coal Mine Strata Control
- Solid experience in geotechnical engineering in a coal mining environment
- Strong computer skills and understanding of geotechnical software
- Good communication, teamwork and organisational skills
