Communications Engineer
Modular Mining Systems provides hardware and software solutions to Mining companies that rely on a robust wireless network to work effectively. Modular Mining sells our own wireless network solution based on either Cisco or Motorola Duo hardware; some clients prefer to provide their own wireless network.
In this position you will be the North American region’s product expert on Modular Mining’s wireless network products, and act as a trusted consultant to clients utilizing a third party network, in the diagnosis and repair of network problems, and in the qualification of new third party network solutions for use with Modular Mining’s products.
In this critical role, you will….
· Perform wireless network surveys for new and existing customers
· Design and assist in the installation of the client’s network
· Customer Training
· Evaluation and analysis of wireless infrastructure solutions and products developed by third parties as well as in house
· Orchestration of laboratory demonstrations and evaluations of new wireless technologies
· Orchestration of field experimentation Knowledge:
· 802.11 (A/B/G/N) wireless network technologies
· Knowledge and/or practical experience with radio technologies (UHF / VHF Radio System) a plus
· Antenna Concepts
· Cisco Wireless LAN hardware and software
· Motorola wireless LAN hardware and software
· Network Design Installation and Management
· Wireless Standards and Organization
· Wireless LAN Security
· Troubleshooting
· How to perform site surveys
· Network monitoring software: Wireshark, TheDude, OpsView, etc.
· Network hardware analyzers: Ekahau, Locust, Bumblebee, nTap devices, etc.
· Demonstrable writing skills and ability to create technical documentation for effective transfer of knowledge
Education and Experience:
· BS in network communications or engineering discipline or 5 years experience in Wireless Network Technology
· 1-2 years experience in Wireless Network design, maintenance and troubleshooting
·International and domestic travel up to 50%. Valid US work authorization is required – no visa sponsorship is available for this position now or in the future.
