ENGINEER – MINE DESIGN

The Engineer – Mine Design will provide engineering services to complete various levels of feasibility studies for mine expansions and re-designs to existing or new plants within Vale’s Canadian Operations. The Engineer – Mine Design produces a full spectrum of deliverables, ranging from high level to execution detail for mine development, infrastructure excavation and production schedules complete with resource loading.  Producing cashflow models to determine the financial viabilities of the projects and cashflow enhancing strategies is also part of role holder’s responsibility.

Accountabilities:

- To provide business planning support to the operations and ensure all work is done in accordance to company procedures and standards and meets legislated requirements.  This support includes:

     - With the application of engineering principles, provide design packages appropriate for level of detail required in order to support the mines.

     - Provide comparative analyses to optimize the mining plans.

     - Produce design packages to include detailed development, production and construction  schedules.

     - Provide input into the design of infrastructure packages such as ventilation, mining equipment, ore handling, geotechnics, backfill, blasting, drainage, electrical, and other facilities, as required.

     - Produce cashflow models for mining projects evaluated - through designs, identify opportunities for safety, productivity and costs improvements while ensuring the safeguarding of life, health, environment and property. 

Education:

The ideal candidate will possess: 

- A post secondary degree in Mine Engineering.

- P. Eng eligibility is required.

Experience:

- A minimum of 2 years underground mining experience is required.

Knowledge and Skills:

- Underground mine design, mining engineering, scheduling, and high level of understanding of underground mining activities.

- Knowledge of engineering planning software (Mine2-4D, EPS, MineCAD) is an asset.

- Knowledge of cash flow modeling techniques and mineral economics is an asset.

- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and familiar with spreadsheet manipulation in Excel.

- Be creative, not only use past practices but promote new ways of doing things in order to maximize the value of our mineral resources.
