Position- Senior Project Geoscientist (Namibian based)   The primary focus of this role is  to lead a large project or a suit of small projects within a programme in identifying and evaluating targets with the potential  to deliver to the Rio Tinto Group ore bodies capable of becoming large, low-cost, long life mines within the region.      Responsibilities:   Executing project/s by:

• Managing project/s resources to ensure effective allocation of company resources to optimise the delivery of a discovery
• Applying appropriate exploration techniques and technology (e.g., geophysics, geochemistry, sampling, remote sensing, resource modelling drilling)
• Compiling and interpreting geological data and information
• Collaborating with multi-functional teams, e.g., technical, commercial, HSEC, HR,  logistics, finance
• Fulfilling technical milestones and monitoring project progress against these to enable continual project prioritisation.
• Writing reports, delivering presentation of results and recommendations to management

Providing specialist / discipline services at a high level of technical competence according to project requirements. Providing support to the discipline (e.g. geophysics) by collaborating on and integrating technical processes appropriately to achieve project deliverables.  Generating targets to deliver discovery by providing technical innovations, geoscientific data and available resources. Managing or providing specialist support to specific components of project work that may include early stage generative through to order of magnitude and handover to product group. Managing contractors and service providers by managing the tender process; content of the contract, and monitoring the contract deliverables in accordance with RT standards. Providing leadership in HSEC by anticipating current and future risks and managing these.   Managing all HSEC related activities within one's area to ensure standards are met. Providing leadership in assurance by anticipating current and future risks and managing these.    Managing all compliance related activities within one's area to ensure standards are met Ensuring that exploration data and documents are properly managed throughout the discovery pipeline and that the most updated and complete version is stored in an accessible and secure infrastructure.   Facilitating change by understanding the principles and impact of that change, and acting accordingly. Collaborating with their peers in other programs/projects; program leaders in other programs to ensure effective allocation of project resources (e.g. information, people, specialist knowledge, materials) Leading the team/s to continuously focus on improving the technical aspects of programme/project. Understanding advances in technology from research organisations in order to apply new techniques/technology to projects/programmes to facilitate discoveries. Collating and analyzing information to assess performance measures and results in order to identify and deliver improvement opportunities.  Collaborating with key stakeholders in other RTX regions; RT BU's; and externally who are associated with same commodity or discipline area in order to share and acquire best practice and resources. Collaborating with potential customers to the project/programme outcomes in other RT BU's in order to understand requirements and align deliverables to these.  

• Tertiary degree in geology or related field (with honours)
• Minimum 5 years related field experience
• Broad knowledge of mineral deposits within several commodities.
• Experience in mineral exploration techniques for a variety of commodity styles
• Sound understanding of technical concepts and principles
• Experience in leading a complex project with a few geologists
