Reporting to the Mill Manager, the Senior Supervisor, Process Engineering is accountable for improving the recovery of product, quality premium production, overall plant stability and efficiency, and maintaining integrity/reliability of the control systems at Vanscoy Potash Operations.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manage and coordinate the Process Metallurgical group; which includes all engineering, quality and laboratory functions. (~10 technical personnel)
- Participate as a member of the Mill Management Team; support the development of site objectives and strategy.
- Monitor and trend plant performance, alert to issues proactively and work to resolve. (eg daily recovery)
- Produce and execute sustainability and improvement plans for recovery of product, quality premium production, overall plant reliability and control systems.
- Support and improve the sites Process Safety Management standards and practices.
- Monitor the production accounting process and accuracy, make recommendations and improvements as needed.
- Work with the mine group to provide mill operations guidance on raw ore supply composition.
- Makes recommendations for the daily/weekly/monthly maintenance scheduling.
- Makes recommendations in respect to yearly mill production targets, metallurgical group budget, and reagent consumption budget.
- Providing direct input into the development of the annual capital plan and budget as well as the long-term capital and operating outlook including growth.
- Ensuring that sufficient front-end project development work is completed in support of Agrium’s Project Management Work Process, including providing necessary resources.
- Responsible for the efficient coordination and communication with key groups, including Operations, Maintenance, Project Engineering and the Mine group.
- Implement long term sustainable processes to ensure process improvement project documentation and development is complete and accessible.
- Providing technical leadership and resources for the development of all department turnaround planning and preparation.
- Champion, support, adhere and continuously improve all Manufacturing Management System Standards and Procedures.
- Effectively manage personnel in the process group through career planning, performance, training and development processes.
Qualifications of the position include:
- Professional Engineer with 8 plus years of related experience, preferably in a Process, Chemical or Mineral Processing Engineering role; must be eligible for registration with APEGS.
- Previous experience in a leadership and supervision role at an operating facility.
- Advanced problem-solving, statistical analysis and decision-making capability.
- Demonstrated strong strategic/leadership focus.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to form and lead teams, delegate work and motivate direct reports.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledgeable in process safety management practices such as Process Hazard Analysis and Management of Change.
- Strong user of MS office software including Word, Excel, Access, and Power point.
This position is located at the Agrium's Vanscoy, Saskatchewan, Potash Mine facility. Vanscoy Potash Operations (VPO) is located approximately 33 kilometers southwest of Saskatoon.
VPO produces four sizes of high quality potash for shipment to markets around the world. The ore body is one kilometer below the surface. An extensive network of underground roads takes workers to the mine faces and various shops. This operation directly employs over 550 people in both the surface and underground operations.
