Description and Desired Qualifications
Position Summary:
Provide direction and leadership for all Module Assembly projects undertaken by CH2M HILL at the Edmonton Module Assembly Facility. The Module Assembly Yard Manager is responsible for Safety, Environmental protection, Quality and Profit on his/her projects. The Module Assembly Yard Manager is responsible for planning, staffing, control and management of all aspects of his/her projects for CH2M HILL Construction Canada Ltd. The successful candidate will be required to perform his/her job functions with minimal supervision.
Essential Job Functions:
- Supervises, coordinates and directs the application of policies, plans and procedures for efficient operations of the CH2M HILL Edmonton Module Assembly Yard under his/her responsibility
- Administers the contract with clients, offering the same level of care and respect whether small or large project.
- Identification, recruitment and retention of senior key project and staff roles.
- Encourage and facilitate team and individual member development including performance reviews and salary adjustment recommendations.
- Prepares and reviews, execution plans on current projects and assists in the preparation of cost estimates and contractual commitments for new projects/proposals.
- Prepares and reviews project progress reports with senior management team on a regular basis not to exceed one month intervals.
- Be responsible for overall safety, quality, schedule, profitability, and client relations for the module assembly yard
Other Job Responsibilities:
- Ensures that each contract/project under their direction is handled with the most economical and feasible methods possible.
- Ensures that each contract/project under their direction is delivered using the CH2M HILL Project Management Manual Guidelines and the Construction Manual Procedures.
- Identifies key project personnel with Head Office input. These positions may be subject to client approval in specific contracts.
- Reviewing and approving (on a weekly basis) project plans, cost estimates, budgets, forecasts and schedules against budget and for conformity to CH2M HILL Practices.
- May provide services to other organizations and lend support in proposal preparation.
- Develops and maintains relationships within clients and prospective client organizations.
- Personally assists and advises other groups and company operations as requested.
- Review and approve subcontract proposals.
- Provide leadership to the subcontractor to help them perform their activities in a safe and quality orientated manner.
- Oversee that all Alberta OH&S, Client, and CH2M HILL safety policies are implemented.
- Promote a safe, productive, and positive work environment.
- Interface with the design engineering and procurement management team as required to prioritize front end project deliverables.
- Be responsible for resolution of labour/union/subcontract, staffing, material delivery, schedule, and safety issues.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Expertise:
- Degree and five (5) years management in Module Assembly or in relevant Industrial field is preferred.
- Proficient and experienced in construction, estimating, budgeting and scheduling.
- Experience in structural steel and pipe spool fabrication is considered an asset.
- Thorough understanding of Project Controls, Material Control, and the Field application of those Controls
Education:
- BA/BS college or university degree in Engineering and/or Project Management with relevant field experience is required. Formal degree can be compensated for with additional project management experience in related industry.
Required Training & Certificates:
- Attend training sessions, seminars, and appropriate educational classes as required by CH2M HILL.
- Possess current knowledge of Field Safety Practices, Alberta OH&S regulations, Work Face Planning techniques and understanding organizational practices.
- Have excellent written and oral communications applicable to standards set by organization.
- PMP / Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing qualifications are considered an asset but are not essential to the role.
- Computer skills commensurate with program and project applications.
Travel:
Travel is an essential requirement of this position. As a leader of Module Assembly Yard activities this position is expected to be where the action is and will be located at the Edmonton yard Facility. Travel will also be required for Safety audits, Site visits, client meetings and other company requirements.
