About the company:
Maersk Oil Maersk Olie og Gas AS (Maersk Oil) is owned by A.P. Møller – Maersk A/S, and is part of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group. Maersk Oil was established in 1962, when Mr A.P. Møller was awarded the Concession for oil and gas exploration and production in Denmark. In 2003, the concession period was extended from 2012 until 2042 and terms and conditions were adjusted as of 1 January 2004. Today, Maersk Oil is a midsize international oil and gas company operating an oil production of about 600,000 barrels per day and a gas production of up to some 1,000 million cubic feet per day. The company has a net equity production exceeding 500,000 barrels of oil equivalents per day from fields in the Danish and British part of the North Sea, offshore Qatar, in Algeria and in Kazakhstan. Activities are ongoing in, among others, the Danish, British and Norwegian sectors of the North Sea, Qatar, Algeria, Angola, Kazakhstan, Oman, Brazil and the US Gulf of Mexico. Maersk Oil has been amongst the leaders in developing solutions tailored to meet the North Sea challenges. The main part of Maersk Oil’s operated production is from low permeability, high porosity chalk and limestone reservoirs, which prior to the 1980’s were deemed unattractive due to low production rates. Innovative application of advanced seismic processing techniques as part of a comprehensive state-of-the-art reservoir characterization, combined with ultra long horizontal drilling (up to 12 kilometres) as well as Maersk Oil’s completion and stimulation technology of the horizontal wells, have been the key to the technical success in developing these chalk fields. In addition, attention to health and safety, a strong respect for the environment and a cost conscious operation have made Maersk Oil grow to become one of the world's top 25 independent oil and gas producing companies. It is Maersk Oil's strategic intent to continue this growth. The company believes that this can be achieved by fully utilizing the potential of existing production areas and establishing and growing material business in new areas.
