ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following but are not limited to: 

• Demonstrate and support the Vision, Mission and Core Guiding Principles, the BHP Billiton Charter and the Code to Business Conduct.
• Promote the five distinctive behaviors as identified in the New Mexico Coal Safe Production Model.
• Maintain all general ledger accounts, post and clear tax transactions in GSAP.
• Perform reconciliations, trace and rectify reconciliation variances.
• Assist with period-end-close.
• Verify proper general ledger accounting through account analysis and reconciliation.
• Create appropriate journal entries for review and approval.
• Coordinate with group and corporate accounting teams as needed.
• Develop and maintain robust controls over processes.
• Perform other assignments as directed to meet business needs.

 EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS:

• Bachelors Degree in Finance, Accounting or related field and 3 to 5 years of general accounting experience required; CPA certification and experience in a Big 4 firm preferred. 
• Demonstrable knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards and Sarbanes Oxley required.
• Proven track record of project management and an ability to multi-task and meet deadlines with a continuous process improvement focus is essential. 
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills and a proven ability to effectively interact with customers, regulators and the public is necessary as well as the ability to work efficiently in a team-oriented, rapidly changing environment.
• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite required; SAP preferred.
• Consistent history of satisfactory performance and a strong individual safety record is required.
