CH2M HILL Senior Environmental Permitting Specialist - Abu Dhabi, UAE

The challenge? To work as a member of the Environmental Permitting team to perform activities supporting the environmental permitting process and documentation of Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) in order to ensure that all required permits are in place and according to the agreed timelines. You should be a self-motivated professional with four years experience in an Environmental Specialist role and have a desire to grow personally as well as professionally.

Our Sr. Environmental Permitting Specialists:
1) Environmental Permitting and Assessment

• Implement all environmental related permitting processes in order to meet the requirements of Environment Agency Abu Dhabi (EAD) and other environmental regulators to ensure ENEC is able to commence construction and operations within its milestone dates.
• Liaise with external agencies to obtain information supporting the development of environmental permitting deliverables.
• Conduct primary technical reviews, as appropriate, on assigned deliverables related to environmental permitting and site characterization and related procurement and tendering packages to ensure compliance with regulatory & Prime Contract requirements, project schedule, and UAE laws and regulations, where relevant.
• Provide input to the development of the Operations Environment permit requirements including OEMP, REMP, and environmental lab development.
• Develop and implement a system to track and close regulatory and other environmental requirements.

2) Technical Support

• Supervise relevant site characterization and environmental baseline studies and services
• Provide technical input and expertise to Corporate HSE, Licensing, Engineering and Siting & Water Strategy

3) Deliverable Review

• Conduct primary technical reviews, as appropriate, on assigned deliverables and tendering packages to ensure compliance with regulatory & Prime Contract requirements, project schedule and UAE laws and regulations, where relevant.
• Monitor the Prime Contractor work in all aspects of environmental systems and equipment, during the design, construction, installation, and commissioning of BNPP, such as effluent and gaseous discharge treatment systems and environmental montiroing systems.

4) Environmental Management System

• Support the development and maintenance of an Environmental Management System for ENEC in order to deal with environment related issues for both the Corporation and the Prime Contractor
• Support audit of ENEC's Environmental Management System and submit reports to the supervisor as required in order to facilitate informed decision making.

5) Stakeholder Engagement

• Facilitate communication both internally and externally in order to build and nurture mutually beneficial working relationships

6) HSE

• Follow all relevant departmental HSE policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions to ensure HSE compliance in all aspects of work in accordance with sound management practices by applying these HSE policies and procesures to self and others to take reasonable care for the health and safety of people, or the environment, who are at the employees's place of work who may be affected by the employees acts or omissions at work.

Basic Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering or acceptable equivalent degree
•Minimum of four years relevant experience in an environmental specialist role.
•Experience in major utilities project development
•English Fluency
•Self Initiative, Ability to communicate effectively, Team working, Intellectual curiosity, analytical thinking, active listening, time management.

Preferred Experience:
•Graduate Degree in Environmental Field
•ISO 14001 Lead Auditor
•Environmental permitting in UAE Experience in Nuclear power project development
•Arabic Fluency
