Job description:

The core role is that of steward for the Marine Technical Database system (MTD) which holds the records of the vessels lubricated by International Marine, OEM grade recommendations and Competitor Comparable Grades. The role also supports other non-technical topics of technical service within the Technical team of International Marine.

The MTD system is an essential part of the Marine Management Information process and the Lubricant Schedule (LS) is a key element of the Brand Offer to the customer. It offers a legal document (LS) as part of the Agreement between BP Marine and the Customer. It is an operational tool for the customer.

MTD itself is an Oracle database containing three Access databases: LS, MLR and CCG
 LS: Lubricants Schedules
 MLR: Manufacturers Lubricant Recommendations
 CCG: Competitor Comparable Grades

The post is responsible for the support and delivery of the MTD system on a daily basis interacting with IT specialists and the business users & global engineers as required.

  • Support the UOA Manager, liaising with relevant functions to ensure timely resolution of global/regional requests
  • Produce monthly data for the collation and production of the monthly global technical data forecast
  • Lead or participate in ad hoc projects and provide advice on project feasibility, time and resources required to complete project workload.
  • Coordinate and ensure relevant processes and procedures are updated and implemented as appropriate.
  • Prepare accurate answers for business/customer/engineer MTD enquiries.
  • Investigate & resolve MTD product performance complaints.
  • Provide MTD training and support to the Brands.
  • Develop new MTD products and improve existing MTD products in MLR.
  • Input information into MTD for Competitor Comparable Grades (CCG).
  • Develop good contacts with IT providers and Software Manufacturers ensuring MTD product specifications meet customer needs and market requirements.
  • Act as MTD Consultant on cross-functional & cross business projects.
  • Support the Marine Technical Co-ordinators
  • Maintain Sales Engineers Handbook and other technically specific marketing material
  • Owner/Administrator & daily maintenance of the Global Technical SharePoint site.
  • Create, format & maintain all Marine (BP & Castrol) Product Data Sheets for Global Technical Team. Updating them in Streamline/Fusion.
  • Involvement in various projects & tasks of a technical nature as and when business requires.
  • Cover external & internal queries during holidays from the BP & Castrol Marine Internet Helpdesk queries, or passing to the most appropriate person in Marine to assist.
  • Cover Electronic Registration Process (ERP) requests for UOA during holiday absences.
  • Qualified to minimum A level standards or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience from a highly detail oriented function e.g. accounting/finance
  • Highly organised with an ability to meet tight deadlines in a pressured environment
  • Excellent technical skills: spread sheets, data manipulation, databases, SQL Queries and accounting software.
