Marathon is currently seeking an Engineering Technician in Houston, Texas.  The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical support and analysis to geoscientists, reservoir engineers and other team members.     

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates data retrieval, collecting, loading, manipulation and management while working with groups in other teams/departments as required.
  • Evaluates data to summarize and document results.
  • Generate production graphs and analyze production trends using Aries, DSS, Excel and Access.
  • Assemble data from electronic and paper well files.
  • Support data management and technical evaluation efforts of team. Recommend new approaches to streamline team's data management.
  • Research well and reservoir data in both internal and external databases and summarize well performance.
  • “Mine” data from SAP and Hyperion to assist with cost and production variance analysis. 
  • Create data sheets, charts, graphs, generating plots, bubble maps and report displays.
  • Maintain complete and accurate well list of all properties, including field names, working and net revenue interests, etc.
Qualifications:
  • Preferred to have 5+ years of technician or data management experience supporting technical staff or strong administrative experience including technical support.
  • Computer Proficiencies: Microsoft Office Products. Knowledge of TOW, Aries, Access, SCADA and Wellview preferred.
  • Understanding of oilfield data collection beneficial. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication, teamwork, and planning & organization skills.
  • Self-starting and motivated to learn.
  • High school diploma or GED required; 2-year or 4-year degree preferred.

A successful candidate will analyze seismic and subsurface information, including petrophysical and operational data, to identify prospective areas for new plays or to develop existing assets.  Ability to accurately compare the relative technical, commercial and strategic merits of competing opportunities will be critical.  Skill set includes structural and facies mapping, seismic interpretation, seismic and sequence stratigraphy and risk analysis.  The position will require close interaction and collaboration with the following internal groups: Production, Drilling, Business Development, Land/Commercial, Conventional New Ventures, Technology, Exploration and Economics/Evaluation.

Responsibilities:
  • Generate and evaluate new prospect and / or assets using local and regional data.  Make recommendations for drillable plays and prospects by providing geological/geophysical and risk analysis.
  • Creative and technically sound integration of variable datasets to identify opportunities.
  • Organize and participate in peer reviews for resource estimates and prospect rank.
  • Interface with all necessary internal groups and organizations to apply best practices to opportunity recommendations.
  • Represent Marathon’s interest in dealing with partners, vendors and competitors.
  • Clearly communicate and document project results and recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships within the industry and with other organizations and individuals to expand professional knowledge and develop useful source contacts.
  • Mentor and develop less experienced staff as necessary.
Qualifications:

Master's Degree in Geology

Minimum of five (5) years total industry experience.

Intermediate PC skills are required in Microsoft desktop suites.  Risk Analysis, Geolog, Geographix, and Landmark proficiencies or equivalent are required.

Position available is in the EagleFord Completions Team.  The position will be located in Houston, Texas, but will be required to travel frequently to field locations to support on-site well operations.


The successful candidate will have a minimum of five years of completions or production engineering experience, preferably in onshore ‘tight’ or ‘unconventional’ plays.  At least two years of hydraulic fracturing design, evaluation, and field supervision required.  This position will be responsible for designing completions, preparing procedures, cost estimates, and other documentation, and working with field supervisors during implementation.  All members of the completion team are also responsible for leading efforts in Health, Environment, and Safety (HES).  This will consist of meeting with contractors, both on- and off-site, considering HES issues in completion design, participating in incident investigations, generating corrective actions, and providing HES leadership while on location.  Continuous improvement, both operationally and in HES issues, will require much interaction with Asset Team members, company-wide Completion Engineers, completion contractors and field personnel.



Responsibilities:
  • Research, understand, and interpret cost drivers and risks associated with various completion procedures and utilize appropriate resources to implement safe and efficient completions of new wells.
  • Construct completion procedures with cost and time estimates and utilize best practices from a wide variety of operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   1. Available to work beyond the traditional 8 hour work day; available to work Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays, to meet operational needs. Well services work is generally performed during day-light hours, Monday through Friday, occasionally on Saturday and or Sunday.  Certain operations cannot however be completed during a single daylight period and must be continued without interruption, over several consecutive days.  Such operations are referred to as “24 hour operations,” and require two or more shifts, crews, to operate the rig.  Able to work at heights up to or greater than 50 feet. 2. BASIC FUNCTION

 

Operates traveling or stationary overhead crane (cab or ground controlled) to lift, move, and position loads, such as machinery, equipment, products, and solid or bulk materials, using hoisting attachments, such as hook, sling, or bucket.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Available for duty seven (7) days a week, able to work more then an eight (8) hour shift.  Due to our customers’ demands this position will require flexibility in work schedules in order to meet the customers’ needs based upon demand.  Overnight stays and travel will be required.

2. Observes load hookup and determines safety of load. Manipulates or depresses crane controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane and hoist movement according to written, verbal, or signal instructions. Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism. Inspects crane for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions. May attach load to hook or other crane accessory prior to operating crane and be designated to drive to designated locations as required.

3. Installs and removes crane booms, extensions and hook blocks. Positions crane outriggers assemblies and maneuvers in response to hand signals. Installs rigs and removes crane attachments. Performs clamshell, dragline, and hook block operations. Determines safe lifting capacities.

4. The Crane Operator will drive to and from the area office to the customer’s location and back to the areas office. 

5. Maintains accurate work tickets based on the Company’s requirements and the work performed for the customer as well as maintaining accurate driving log books, pre-trip/ post-trip information and maintenance files on the crane.  This position is responsible for alerting appropriate supervision when mechanical defects are noted as well as alerting supervision when hours worked may exceed DOT maximums.

6. Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required by immediate supervisor.

7. Performs the primary thinking called for and encompassed by the overall Position Definition.

8. Adheres to Company policies and work requirements.

• An understanding of basic maintenance concepts required to perform light to heavy repairs as necessary.  The position requires the use of hand tools and other equipment associated with the vehicle.

 

• Must have a background in crane and rigging. Operator must be able to show proof of past history of operating hydraulic cranes up to 60 tons RT and hydraulic 50 ton truck crane.

• Requires good hand-eye-foot coordination, an ability to judge distance carries equal importance. Most training programs require students to have a high-school diploma, earned with some coursework in science, mechanics and electronics.

• We require professional certification through the National Commission for the Certification of Crane Operators (NCCCO), even if the state in which they operate does not. 18 states require crane operators to hold certification or licenses through NCCCO. NCCCO offers mobile crane operator certification with a specialty in lattice boom crawler cranes.

All duties of the Coil Tubing Operator are to be performed according to the Company Operating Procedures in order to maximize the safety of all personnel at the work site and to efficiently perform the task.

REQUIREMENTS
• Pass the company’s drug screen.
• Pass the company’s “Physical Functions Assessment”.
• Motor vehicle record qualifies individual to be an approved company driver.
• Acceptable criminal history.
• Must have a valid CDL A driver license with the proper endorsements required for the type vehicle operated, issued by state of residence.
• Ability to read, write and speak English to the extent that they are able to understand verbal and written instructions as well as give verbal and written instructions in English; and the ability to use simple mathematical calculations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals (addition, subtraction, division and multiplication) to make job related calculations.
• Must have good knowledge of oil field and related equipment associated with down-hole processes, pumping of oil field fluids, has well-control training, and is familiar with down-hole tools.
• Knowledge and experience in oilfield well servicing is required.
• Must have the knowledge required to calculate displacement, volumes, fluid weights, pipe tallies and knowledge of pump capabilities.
• Heavy Work- Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.
• This position requires standing, walking, and sitting while working either indoors or outdoors.
• While performing the job, will be required to lift/carry, pull/push, reach, squat, kneel, and or climb ladders or stairs.
• Working conditions for this position may involve exposure to varying environmental conditions. This may include chemicals, gases, cold/heat, noise, dampness, dust, fumes, radiation and heights. Exposure to the above conditions should be handled as prescribed in the Company’s Accident Prevention Handbook and/or the Company’s Standard Operating Procedures.

Qualifications

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Ensures that quality products and services are provided to the customers including maintaining productivity standards, following safety procedures for a safe working environment and adhering to all applicable governmental regulations for compliance.
2. Turn in operations reports daily to supervisor.
3. Maintains log books, pre-trip/post-trip inspections and maintenance files on the vehicle. This position is responsible for alerting appropriate supervision when mechanical defects are noted on the truck as well as alerting supervision when hours worked may exceed DOT maximums.
4. Directs the spotting of the equipment until placed in position, on the location to ensure all suction and discharge lines are hooked up from the Coil Tubing Unit to the well and from the Coil Tubing Unit to the pit and tank properly.
5. Assembles and prepares tools at the rig-site and oversees the related processes and procedures associated with running tools for a specific task.
6. Maintains current well control certification.
7. Operates specialized Coil Tubing tools for cleaning out of well bores.
8. Ensures the equipment within his/her control is maintained and repairs are carried out as required.
9. Ensures that quality products and services are provided to the customers to resolve concerns, issues, and complaints.
10. Assists Field Foreman by suggesting tools to run in hole to fish rods, tubing, and casing.
11. Requires various types and levels of job related training with respect to the operations of the equipment and Company Standard Operating Procedures and also other specialized training as required by regulatory agencies and the Company.
12. Operates the assigned equipment in accordance with the contractual terms and conditions as requested or designated by customers.
13. Maintains regular contact and communication with customers to resolve concerns, issues and complaints.
14. Washes and maintains Company assigned equipment to Company standards.
15. Continually emphasize safety. Participate or lead safety meetings, hazard hunts and ensures JSA’s are followed.
16. Know, follow and periodically review the requirements established by job policy and procedure. Follow established procedures and guidelines
17. Reports unsafe acts, conditions or hazards immediately
18. Follows instructions given by supervisory personnel.
19. Performs and assumes other duties and responsibilities as may be required by immediate supervisor.
20. Performs the primary thinking called for and encompassed by the overall Position Definition.

    SUMMARY OF
    POSITION
    Under the supervision of the Joint Interest Billing Team Leader,
    process and monitor AFE’s; maintain allocations for lease operating expenses,
    capital costs, overhead, and other joint account expenditures; perform account
    reconciliations; prepare joint interest bills; and monitor joint interest
    accounts receivable and communicate with working interest partners.

    ACCOUNTABILITIES
    • Responsible for timely preparation and distribution
    of joint interest bills;

    accounts receivable, prepaid and other billing related general ledger accounts;

    • Preparation of AFE over/under spending reports;

    company has an extensive position in the Montney (NE BC) play and has extensive
    growth
    plans for an EOR / Thermal heavy oil project in northern Alberta. The
    Company is seeking an experienced Geologist for the position of Development
    Geologist - Geomodeler. The purpose of this role will be to act as an integral
    part of both development and exploration team during all phases of EOR planning
    and development, data acquisition, reservoir characterization and well
    operations. This position will liaise with geologists, reservoir engineers, and
    service providers to execute the Company's growth strategy for EOR recovery
    operations in the Peace River area with focus in developing geomodels for
    different parts of the reservoir.
    Reporting Structure:
    This position
    reports to the Manager, Exploitation.
    Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

    Use existing and newly acquired geological and production data to make
    recommendations for EOR planning and development.
    • Provide recommendations
    for new data acquisition and start locations to support EOR planning and
    development.
    • Support EOR pilots and work with reservoir and production
    engineers to set targets and interpret EOR pilot results.
    • Responsible for
    creating and updating regional and local geomodeling i Petrel for the thermal
    properties.
    • Oversee and support procedures and/or guidelines for the
    acquisition of well data, including mud logging, coring and wireline.

    Ensure that the geological well objectives are met by proper planning of well
    data acquisition programs.
    • Work with modeling geologist to ensure
    appropriate reservoir characterization.
    • Responsible for regional and local
    mapping update.
    • Integrate seismic to update regional assessments in
    Petrel.
    • Ensure the Company is in compliance with regulations for timely
    submissions or required approval applications and supporting EOR regulatory
    applications, development schedules, SIRs, etc.
    • Responsible for the land
    sale postings review and evaluation, then recommend action.
    • Supervise the
    Wellsite Geologist personnel during drilling activities. Review service
    company's work, such as Directional drilling, coring or wireline logging.

    Strat's well data acquisition (coring, mud and wireline
    logging).
    Skills/Qualifications:
    • Bachelor or Master's degree in
    Geosciences.
    • Geoscientist (or engineer) with 5+ years of direct geomodeling
    experience using Petrel, GoCad or comparable software (our client works with
    Petrel).
    • Previous experience with regional geologic mapping, a strong
    understanding of log interpretation and core description, familiar with
    geological well planning and drilling operations and a basic understanding of
    open and cased wireline logging and MWD/LWD logging.
    • Worked closely with
    different subsurface teams (geologist, sedimentologist/stratigrapher,
    geophysicist, reservoir engineer, petrophysicist, simulation engineer) and
    utilized established geoscience data analysis techniques and methodologies to
    construct and validate reservoir models
    • Be well versed in the understanding
    and application of common geostatistical methods (stochastic and object based)
    to build geologically realistic reservoir models.
    • Developed an integrated
    understanding of reservoir heterogeneities and then model the heterogeneities
    into reservoir models that can be upscaled to assess the impact on thermal and
    polymer EOR heavy oil recoveries
    • Experience quantifying subsurface
    uncertainty by designing and running workflows that includes uncertainty
    analysis sampling methods such as Monte Carlo and experimental design
    (Plackett-Burman) is an asset. Used the uncertainty workflow, develop multiple
    realizations geomodels for upscale to simulation.
    • Has kept informed of new
    and evolving geostatistical approaches to modeling oil sands reservoirs

    Worked with area geologists and reservoir engineers to QC the "correctness" of
    both reservoir models and upscaled simulation models
    • Aided in optimum well
    placement and landing of horizontal wells for CSS and polymer EOR
    recoveries
    • Mentored area geologists in the application and techniques of
    reservoir modeling and assisted in reservoir management and development geology

    OVERVIEW
    An
    active participant on the SUPPLY CHAIN team, this leadership role supports the

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Suncor is hiring for a Drilling Engineering co-op student for our In Situ team. This is an 8 to 12 month position and is located in Calgary. You must be enrolled in a Petroleum, Chemical or Mechanical Engineering Program and be returning to school upon completion of the work term to be eligible.  

    KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

    The Suncor In Situ project consists of commercial bitumen production facilities utilizing steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology, a relatively new extraction technique being used to develop Alberta's vast oil sands resource. Working as a part of a team, drilling engineers are responsible for planning, optimizing and executing the initial drilling of injection and producer wells.  The wells are drilled in separate projects. A project may consist of 1 well or multiple wells on a single pad or different areas.

    You will:

    • Assist in ensuring regulatory reporting compliance for each project
    • Prepare pre-drill stick diagrams and "as built" well diagrams
    • Participate in well optimization and integrity studies
    • Support the In Situ Drilling team in continuous improvement initiatives
    • Perform field visits to well sites as required
